Bemalillo Spartans Reach State Tourney Despite District Defeat

Bemalillo girls beat St Pius 50 40 to reach the state tournament after earlier 41 31 win over Giants and a semifinal win, with Rebecca Lucero 12 Jessica Lucero 11 Christine Kitsch 10 leading scoring. The team then lost to Bernalillo in the final and prepared to face Shiprock in the state qualifying round. The Bemalillo boys closed their season with a 64 59 win over Moriarity to finish 18 4 and 10 2 in SAAA, advancing to the district finals next Saturday.

M.G.A. Tourney Opens in Rio Rancho Under Brisk Winds

The season kick off on February 28 featured a two man shotgun scramble at Rio Rancho. Twenty players formed ten twosomes with Hunter Mortley and Dave Ek taking first in the first flight, followed by Groglio Beswick and Fay Popper Ciccarello Jeske and Keifer Farmer. In the second flight Irv Roth and Marv Bernstein won, with Norm Orchant Talal and others close behind. Special prizes awarded for closest to pin longest drive and longest putt plus various door prizes.
