Births in Albuquerque Area Show Five New Arrivals

Richard and Sherry Fisher of Albuquerque welcomed a son on February 20 at St. Joseph West Mesa Hospital. Thomas George and Cindy Jo Shroba of Albuquerque welcomed a daughter on February 21 at Presbyterian Hospital. Chris and Debbie Valencia of Albuquerque welcomed a daughter on February 22. George and Joanna Rodriguez of Albuquerque welcomed a daughter on February 25. Geoffrey and Linda Rinaldi of Albuquerque welcomed a daughter on March 3.

Arbor Day celebrated in New Mexico on Friday March 13

New Mexico observes Arbor Day on March 13 with public ceremonies planned in Albuquerque Lovington Hobbs Moriarty Las Cruces Rio Rancho Bernalillo and Grants. Urban horticulturist James Sais urges citizens and groups to plant trees to beautify yards and support the environment. The day traces to 1872 and Nebraska. Arbor Day is set as the second Friday in March in New Mexico. Also note a Rio Rancho Library Friends book sale on Saturday March 21 from 10 30 am to 3 pm at the library with books sold for 25 cents each benefiting the nonprofit group.

West Mesa Scout Show and Events Highlight 1986

Great Southwest Council hosts a Scout Show at Coronado Shopping Center on April 4 with 65 to 70 booths inside and 10 to 12 outside. Activities include wildlife conservation, metalworks, surveying, Dutch oven cooking, aviation and computer science with Leader guides distributed. Pinewood Derby on March 28 at Sage Chapel Albuquerque. Troop 31 reports a strong winter, trips, races and service to Rio Rancho. Girl Scout and Chaparral Council activities listed with contact details and a March 12 birthday party at Tingley Coliseum. Library programs on Indian artifacts scheduled March 19 with Kent McManus from Sandia Indian Reservation.

Exploring Native American crafts in the Southwest
