Two Die In Motorcycle Car Collision On Corrales Road

The Bernalillo County Sheriff reports a February 26 wreck near the Corrales Road bridge killed 35-year-old Lee Montion of Rio Rancho and reportedly killed radio personality Seven L. Hatley, 36, of Paradise Hills. Montion’s wife Alma was injured. Hatley, a KOB-FM jockey, was driving a 1979 Honda 1000 cc when it struck Montion’s Volkswagen. The crash occurred about 9:40 pm after Hatley reportedly ran a red light and sideswiped an Albuquerque police car. Authorities say no alcohol or drugs were involved. Hatley co starred on Stevie and the Bean.

Paradise Hills Paper Drive Set For March 18

The Paradise Hills civic and soccer clubs report a successful February 19 paper and aluminum drive. Volunteers including Linda Shafer, Marge Teague, and Marcella Rhatigan assisted with loading, bagging, and refreshments while residents placed materials at curbside for collection. The next drive is Sunday March 18 with curbside drop at noon. contact 898 3500 for announcements or participation.

Horizon Ordered To Pay FTC Penalties and Redress

The FTC seeks a federal court order for Horizon Corp to pay 2.4 million into a consumer redress fund for missing a June payment and for accruing interest. The commission seeks civil penalties up to 10,000 per violation as of June 1 1983, with daily violations accruing thereafter. The 1981 order followed 1975 false land value claims and a 1979 unfair practices finding upheld by the Commission.

Jennifer Waters, a Cibola junior from Rio Rancho and daughter of Hazel Waters, is nominated as a candidate for the Miss New Mexico Teenage Scholarship and Recognition Pageant to be held in Grants, New Mexico, August 0 through 12.

National Youth Art Month Observed by Albuquerque Schools

National Youth Art Month is celebrated across districts including Albuquerque Public Schools with major student art exhibits. The Elementary Spring Art Exhibit runs March through 19 at the Teachers' Learning Center, 3315 Louisiana NE, with an opening reception March 7 from 3 30 to 5 p.m. A billboard Art in the Open contest runs March 2 through April 16 displaying enlarged versions of 50 winning works on 8 by 10 foot panels citywide. The Metro Youth 4 exhibit runs March 20 through April 10 at the Media Center. Scholarships include $500 from the University of New Mexico, $50 from the Albuquerque Yucca Branch NM Pen Women, $25 from NM Art Education Association, and additional awards for a high school and a middle school student.
