Local students win LANL scholarships at reception

Three Los Alamos scholarship winners are Merilyn Beebe a Cleveland High School graduate with a $4,000 Bronze award Katherine Schneider another CHS graduate gets a $10,000 Silver award and Eduardo Garcia Melero a Bernalillo High School graduate receives a $1,000 William and Gertrude Fradkin Memorial award Also recognized from Sandoval County are Bobbi Johnson a Central New Mexico College student with a $1,000 Regional College Returning Student award Arielle Quintana a Colorado State University student with a $2,000 Bronze award and Shayline Stacy a Jemez Valley High School graduate with a $10,000 Senator Pete Domenici award In 2015 LANL Employees Scholarship Fund awarded $455,500 to 11 students in northern New Mexico Funding comes from LANL employee donations and a $250,000 match from Los Alamos National Security LLC.

Public Schools Run American Indian Summer Academy

Rancho Public Schools' American Indian Summer Academy wrapped up at Puesta del Sol and earned District of Distinction honors from District Administration for an innovative project improving student outcomes. Coordinator Carrie Loretto notes the kindergarten to second grade camp runs at capacity with 70 students and a waiting list. The final week centers on math reading and science within a cultural framework focusing on the natural world and reciprocity.

Rio Rancho Animal Shelter Adopts Pets Near You

The Rio Rancho Animal Control shelter lists pets available for adoption with contact options at 891-5075 and visits to 344 Northern Blvd. Kennel hours are 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
