Pork & Brew barbecue contest in Rio Rancho grows with city pride

Park official Perez leads Pork & Brew planning as about a dozen staff coordinate site prep, judges, and barbecuers for a major event that draws out-of-state teams. He aims for strong customer service and safety, noting barbecue rivals say the sport ranks just after NASCAR in popularity. Ruben Gomez credits Perez with inspiring the city's competition. The event fills space limits and requires advance booking, site utilities, and stringent safety oversight.
