Bernalillo Opens Friday Farmers Market at El Zocalo

The High Desert Farmers Market starts this week in Bernalillo with Fridays 4 to 7 p.m. at El Zocalo 282 Gamino del Pueblo. Local farms offer produce organic meat crafts and special events are planned.

County GOP committee to meet in Rio Rancho

The Republican Party of Sandoval County will hold its monthly central committee meeting Monday July 10 at the Wells Fargo Bank in Rio Rancho. Registration starts 6:30 p.m. Nominations will be made to fill the second vice-chairman post. A Robert's Rules of Order discussion and duties of the county chairman are on the agenda. Attendees are asked to contribute $1 for refreshments. all Sandoval Republicans are welcome. For more information call Kevin Haney at 892-6602.

DPS conducts STEP patrols on Southern Boulevard through July 14

Rio Rancho Department of Public Safety launches its Selective Traffic Enforcement Program along Southern Boulevard from NM 528 to Unser Boulevard to cut aggressive driving violations by 10 percent. DPS director Dencil Haycox says enforcement will focus on tailgating and unsafe lane changes.

The Rio Rancho Public Schools Board will consider two hires, a new Martin Luther King Elementary principal to replace Nora Scherzinger and a communications coordinator. Haycox Faces Auto Theft and Conspiracy Charges

Albuquerque police plan to charge Joseph Hayens, 16, of Rio Rancho, with auto theft, burglary, receiving and transferring of a stolen vehicle, conspiracy, and tampering with evidence plus charges tied to unlawful use of a stolen credit card. The report states Haycox is the director’s son, not grandson. The trio allegedly broke into a local woman's car and stole her purse.
