Presbyterian Rust expands to add 24 beds at Rust Medical Center
Rust Medical Center opened its fifth floor on Monday adding space for 24 more beds to lift total beds from 68 to 92 as demand grows. Since 2011 the hospital and affiliated Physician Office Building have seen rising volumes with more than 600 births and 16 000 ER visits. The expansion adds 54 progressive care beds and nine more post partum rooms to 18, plus two more birthing suites. Center is Rio Rancho's first full service hospital and New Mexico's first 21st century hospital in the Presbyterian Healthcare Services system.

Lovelace Health Systems to lay off 80 employees
Lovelace Health Systems announced laying off about 80 workers, less than 2 percent of its total staff, with no direct patient care positions affected. Hospital spokeswoman Laurie Volkin said specifics could not be shared and that the system remains focused on patient care and quality. Concurrently Presbyterian Rust Medical Center expanded to a top floor with 24 additional beds, and UNM Sandoval Regional Medical Center planned weekend grand opening before public access Monday.
