Mountain View student wins district spelling bee title
Holly Gallegos, an eighth grader from Mountain View, won the district spelling bee hosted by Puesta del Sol Elementary after spelling almost every word correctly and missing only three. Jade Roberts and Jordan Moshi finished as runners up in the 18th annual event featuring 30 contestants from Rio Rancho Public Schools and St. Thomas Aquinas School.

Rio Rancho posted more single family housing starts than Albuquerque in 2008, and again in 2009, while Albuquerque began wiping out the advantage by eliminating impact fees for green builders. By 2011 Rio Rancho hit a record low of 301 starts as Albuquerque neared 800, with nontangible factors and tighter credit shaping the metro market.

Rio Rancho seeks P and Z nod for 12.5 acre mixed development
Rio Rancho’s Rio Village project moves to the Planning and Zoning Board seeking approval to build on 12.5 acres of a 65 acre site for a commercial development including a movie theater. The plan sits at the southeast corner of Unser Boulevard and Wellspring Avenue, just north of Rust Medical Center. Applicant Robert Geringer of Sandia View LLC said in September he paused plans to pursue residential and commercial development due to timing.
