Voice of the People rebuttal targets Sheriff Ferrara

A long letter from Philip A Curisto condemns Sheriff Ferrara for hypocrisy and retaliation. He alleges discrimination in the Rio Rancho Police Department, censure of officers, and a push for “professionalism” that masks coercive control. The writer recalls loyalty to the sheriff’s rival and laments staff turnover, hidden lists, and political maneuvering ahead of 1984 city leadership. A second note from Sue E Paitin appeals for return of a stolen Christmas Santa.

Questioning Sheriff Jurisdiction in Rio Rancho City Hall Debate

In a letter to the editor Sheriff Ferrara questions whether the county sheriff has authority inside Rio Rancho. He cites state law giving the mayor executive power locally and notes the mayor delegates enforcement to the police chief. He recalls past police coverage and budgets, mentions minority staffing figures, affirmative action, and an AG inquiry, and defends the city’s elected officials and due process rights.
