Sandoval County Detention Center staff were cleared of negligence in two December personal crisis reports involving Stephen Vincent and Kenneth Traiger. Investigations by the sheriff's office and U.S. Marshals Service found no duty to prevent the deaths. New procedures restrict shoelaces. inmates may request laces after 48 hours, with limits on length and shoe type. inmates at risk are watched. Traiger, a former bank robber, died by suicide after about a month in custody. Vincent, accused of child molestation, died about seven hours after booking.
David Anderson was acquitted on three of four counts after Judge Louis McDonald delivered a directed verdict. A charge of criminal sexual penetration of a minor was dropped when a key witness altered testimony.
