Storm risked Nieto in state title game despite concussion

Cleveland High junior running back Shawn Nieto No 10 in the program suffered a third quarter concussion in the state semifinal win over Mayfield in Las Cruces on Nov 28. A temporary restraining order allowed him to be in uniform for the championship, but coach Heath Ridenour faced a late game decision. Landry Hayes starred with four TDs and 200-plus rushing yards as the Storm won. The district followed NMAA and House Bill 101 concussion protocols, with the TRO complicating the usual seven day out-of-action rule.
