DWI Charges Dropped In Corrales Hearing For Montoya

Veronica Montoya 31 daughter of former Sheriff’s aide Manual Montoya faced a six and a half hour Corrales hearing. Judge Melvin Eisenstadt dropped the DWI charge and fined her 610 dollars for speeding and reckless driving while limiting jail time if she begins alcoholism counseling. Montoya led police on a three mile high speed chase exceeding 100 mph from Corrales Road to Bernalillo before being stopped at a roadblock. The judge noted the incident was alcohol related and directed screening and, if needed, enrollment in a counseling program. Montoya admitted drinking but denied excessive speeding and disputed radar readings. The case included disputes over blood alcohol testing and machine calibration.
