DWI suspect narrowly avoids head on collision on NM 165
Placitas man Jason DeLara arrested Thanksgiving Day after driving against traffic in a white coupe. Deputy Chris Weber chased and stopped the car, which swerved into the westbound lane nearly hitting a sheriff unit. DeLara, found in a Placitas driveway, showed impairment and was booked for aggravated DWI and related charges. A half bottle of vodka was found in the front seat. He was released on recognizance within three hours.

Rio Rancho man jailed on threats to officers and judges
Rio Rancho resident Thomas Gaston 33 pled guilty to telephone harassment after making obscenity laden threats against two DPS detectives and three judges in a Nov 16 call. He received one year probation, must complete a 21 day substance abuse program, and was sent to Heights Psychiatric Hospital for evaluation after release to his wife.

Balloon rally to highlight weekend in Rio Rancho
Smokey Bear joins the annual Jingle Bell Rally over Rio Rancho with a special shape balloon. The balloon park dedication runs Dec 10 and 11 at Balloon Park, part of Albuquerque Aerostat Ascension Association events celebrating Smokey Bear’s 50th birthday since 1993. Spectators may view free of charge and park at Balloon Park A-I2 with directions provided by public safety officers.
