Taos Revolt and Price at Rio Rancho in 1847
Colonel Sterling Price led about 2,000 Missouri volunteers to Santa Fe after Gov. Bent was killed in Taos. Following rumors of rebellion, Price moved north January 1847 to quell the Taos uprising and restore American control in the New Mexico Territory. He arrived after Kearny had departed for California.
