Rio Rancho woman dies from West Nile Virus
Rio Rancho resident Alwilda Cheney, 88, died early Thursday at University Hospital from complications of West Nile Virus becoming the state’s second death from the virus. Her husband Cecil, a former city personnel manager, recalled their 63 years of marriage and her love of their Lakeview Lane home near Chamisa Hills Golf Course.

Rio Rancho Guard Members Heading Overseas for Iraq War
Thomas Trujillo, a 28 year old chief warrant officer and Rio Rancho resident, and ten fellow members of the 2nd Battalion Patriot missile division of the 200th Air Defense Artillery were honored at the Rio Rancho armory before deploy ment overseas. Trujillo spoke of missing his two year old daughter Melyssa during service.
