A 1980 county report shows $270,000 collected in taxes with no spend to date, yet $30,000 was allocated to the Rio Rancho Carabacillas Drain as a joint effort with the city MACOG AMAFCA the Black family and county. The project aims to drain Corrales and Sky View areas and includes designs for a Sara Road to Meadowlark drain.
The Sandoval County Flood Commission creation dates are clarified after records show a 1978 flood control office designation and a 1979 amended resolution naming Montoya's Arroyo Flood Commission. Joint powers agreements in 1983 link the flood commission to Corrales Watershed District and Rio Rancho, with funds used for right of way and related services. A subsequent rescission of the tax levy led to further review and updated procurement notes on a consultant expenditure under state law.
The River's Edge area straddles APS and Jemez Springs districts with lines four miles north of the Santoval Bernalillo County boundary. Moving the boundary north affects tax base for Jemez Springs while funding capital projects, as Rio Rancho residents in that district fund schools even if their children attend APS. The district is seeking options to provide Rio Rancho classrooms locally.
