State flood control post creation questioned in Sandoval County

The Sandoval County Commission did not approve creating the county flood commissioner position, official records show. Wacky Olympics set for Rio Rancho at Haynes Park pool

This Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at 2006 Grande Blvd Haynes Park pool Rio Rancho hosts The Wacky Olympics with competitive and noncompetitive games and awards for all participants. The Easter Seals Society of New Mexico teams with Smiths food stores for a root beer float promo August 12 and 13 offering large tool beer floats for a dollar from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at participating Smiths stores. Rio Rancho Boy Scout Troop 714 will hold a car wash at the Chevron on Southern Blvd and NM 528 starting 8 a.m. with $2 per car or $4 for vans, plus auto first aid kits for $5.

Cat wedged in wall freed after long rescue

Donna Abeyta of Montego Court found her Siamese Phoebe trapped between the house wall and the fireplace. Animal control officers arrived after 8:10 a.m. and spent nearly three hours removing the wall casing to rescue the cat, which then dashed to its food.

Frances R McCaffrey Former Observer co publisher dies

Frances R. McCaffrey 67 of Fort Myers Florida died July 29 at home. An Albuquerque native and former co publisher of The Observer for 14 years with her husband Joseph she is survived by his spouse two sons Joseph Jr and James two daughters Charlotte Arendt and Frances Tomlinson and 13 grandchildren. A Rio Rancho contributor and AMREP friend Jim Colegrave praised her role in the city's formative years. Burial was in Florida.
