Senator Jeff Bingaman announced he would attend the first open house of the New Mexico National Guard’s Hawk missile battalion facility in Rio Rancho. The site marks the nation’s first Guard or Reserve unit to receive the all weather medium range surface-to-air missile system.

Four ARPS schools failed to meet AYP for the second consecutive year. Superintendent Sue Cleveland described staff reactions as disappointed and devastated while principals and special education staff shared tearful responses.
