New Mexico Gas has withdrawn its request to build a liquefied natural gas facility in Rio Rancho after opposition from the PRC and Attorney General's Office. The project, cost $30 to $35 million, would have used a 2 percent franchise fee to fund city rights of way, delivering about 353 thousand dollars yearly to the general fund.

Sandoval County to discuss 12.5 million loan for landfill plan
At Thursday's Sandoval County Commission meeting, officials will consider a 12.5 million loan from the New Mexico Finance Authority to fund a new landfill, transfer stations, and related facilities. The loan would refinance two existing debts and finance additional infrastructure including relocating PNM lines, with Fire Chief James Maxon seeking extra funds for fire equipment. A bid of about 147,500 for a six foot high 1,560 foot tire bale wall at the Cuba fairgrounds is on the docket, funded mainly by a 135,240 state grant and a county share. The wall will separate livestock areas and be built by Rivercrest Construction. The agenda also includes an amendment to allow partisan political discussion at the county transit facility and notes the meeting at 6 p.m. at the Bernalillo administration building.
