Mr and Mrs John Glenn of this city received last week the news their daughter Mise Bessie Glenn a junior at Wilberforce College Xenia was chosen to deliver the annual oration Her subject The Origin of Music and the faculty called her oration a masterpiece Her parents note this honor comes after last year marking her popularity among several hundred students at the college She ranked ninth in a class of over one hundred while pursuing a two year course, a product of Marysville High School.

Tragic drowning near Springdale church claims Ray Thomas

Word reached town Sunday morning of the death of Ray Thomas who drowned in Blues creek near Springdale church on Saturday evening. He and George Eakin had been in Marysville and later visited Thomas's mother before going to the creek to dynamite for fish. Though Eakin denied explosives, many fish were found dead in the stream. Thomas fell in and could not be rescued despite friends' efforts. a local gathering aided in recovering the body by midnight. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at Mt Hermon.

Ent Contagious Evening at Opera House Class Show

Bluescreek School Closes Successful Term Beneath Well Notes

Mrs. C. M. Boord closed a term of school at Bluescreek with songs recitations marches and dialogues. About fifty attenders wished her continued success as they departed. Mrs. Henry Barkepile improved rapidly under Dr. John McCloud of Broadway Ohio after a week of illness. A well near N. W. Hill measures 43 feet deep and 11 feet in the rock with fine water.

Berlin May 21 A bill in the diet proposes boosting German settlement in West Prussia and Posen by raising state funds from 200 million to 350 million marks and adding 100 million marks for purchasing more estates for settlement in the two provinces.

Storm Damages in Guthrie and Davenport Oklahoma

A heavy wind and rain storm after midnight caused bridge washouts, several houses wrecked, and crops damaged. A waterspout three miles south of Guthrie demolished several houses. In Davenport, 800 miles east of Guthrie, six houses were wrecked and stock losses reported. No fatalities reported.

Avalon woman arrested for murder of adopted child

Mrs Letitia Eagle of Avalon near Pittsburg was arrested on a murder charge in the death of her 13 year old adopted child Wdita Warner. The girl died May 6 from a bullet wound in the heart, initially thought suicide, but the coroner jury ruled murder.

Storm Toll and Political Rally in a Scattered News Brief

A lightning strike near Boonville Indiana killed Marvin Hart age 40 and his 17 year old son. The city of Chicago reported several heat prostrations. Cincinnati recorded six fatalities from the storm. Destructive Storm Hits Cincinnati and Vicinity

Ohio news reports a severe wind and rainstorm in Cincinnati and nearby areas on Tuesday. The tempest caused at least six deaths, widespread injuries, and over one million dollars in property damage. Young Woman Escapes Prison Using Bedclothes Rope

May Adams, held on suspicion of hotel robbery, escaped Gallipolis city prison by digging loose bricks from a second floor cell window. She fashioned a rope from bedclothes and descended to ground safely. She is also wanted at Marietta.

Tragedy at Stark County Workhouse as Prisoner Giganti Attacks

Edwin Godkin Dies in England After Brain Hemorrhage

Edwin Lawr ence Godkin editor emeritus of The Evening Post died in Brixham South Devonshire England after a brain hemorrhage on May 17.
