Telephone Co. seeks new rates to cover upkeep costs

The Ohio Associated Telephone Company filed with the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio for a system wide rate rise. President C E Williams cites 1950 costs up about 20 percent and a need to attract investment for ongoing expansion and service improvements. The proposal would raise monthly revenues by 86 dollars per month overall 19.7 percent and target 6 percent return, applying to Richwood Prospect and LaRue exchanges with specific per party and rural rates and adjustments for extension lines and installation charges.

V F W Auxiliary Meeting Held at Curry Residence

The V F W Auxiliary Post 4654 met June 20 at Mrs Marie Currys home. The group will hold one meeting per month in July and August and start a membership drive from July 1 to October 1. Geneva Dilsaver reported on the 11th district meeting Basil Ohio June 10. Next auxiliary meeting set for June 18.

Minnie White Celebrates 90th Birthday Quietly at Home

Mrs. Minnie White of 130 East Blagrove Street quietly marked her 90th birthday on Tuesday June 26 due to illness. She has been confined to bed since January 27. Relatives and friends visited and she received many cards and flowers.

Juvenile Grange Meeting Held Friday Evening

Jackson Juvenile Grange met Friday night with eleven officers present. Contests awarded to Daniel Debolt, Marianne Fry, Eva Carol Allinder, and Danny Streeter. A wiener roast and hayride invitation, a paper drive plan, and a musical program by Eva Carol Allinder and others were announced.

Jolly Circle Silver Tea and Program

The Jolly Circle of Central Methodist church held a Wednesday gathering with president Helen Smith leading a silver tea and program. Mrs Goeney presented Japan related films and talks while Live Wire Ever Ready and Claborne Methodist ladies joined as guests. Teapots served as favors by Cora Wood and Millie Murray. De votions featured performances by Florence Davis Sue Ann McBride Kay Brobeck Stella Gaston Selah Clark and Edna Baker followed by a social.

Richwood Scouts Celebrate Summer Camporee

Union District Boy Scouts held the Camporee at Darby Wilds on June 23 24 with Don Buverard and Bob Wentz among staff. Forty two scouts competed earning red ribbons. seven from Troop 109 attended. Newell Travis and Geneva Dilsaver transported the group and plans for Camp Lazarus July 1 7 followed.

The Alfred Wright and Lavina Wright Johnston reunion drew attendees from Cleveland Attica Mt. The Gazette will publish one day earlier next week because July 4th falls on Wednesday. All advertisers and correspondents must submit copy to the office on Monday instead of Tuesday for the upcoming issue.

Workers Conference at Baptist Church June 20

The Baptist church parlor hosted a Workers Conference of the Board of Christian Education with Rev. Robert Turner and chair Arvilla Swartz presiding. Devotions by Mrs. Howard Temple, sessions on The Teacher's Christian Life, My Program for Progress, and A Self Rating Scale were shared. A film titled The Growing Teacher closed the meeting, with July 26 slated for the next gathering.

The Summersville Aid Society met June 6 at Marjorie Boyce home with 17 members and 16 guests. Hazel Burden reelected president. Lelah Nichols vice president. Hazel Hull secretary. Farm Bureau Council No 16 met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hoffman east of town. Mae Fish led devotions with 16 members present answering roll call by favorite Bible book. Lawrence Dodrill read the discussion on Farm Family. Contests led by Mr. and Mrs. Frank Pacha were won by Mrs. Sam Burbaugh and Frank Hickok. Refreshments followed. Next meeting July 15 will be a picnic at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Fish.

Richwood youths enlist in U S Air Force at Lackland Base

Richwood residents Robert Russellacha and Alvin Lindley enlisted in the U S Air Force after a new ruling allowing those who passed the draft physical to join. They will train at Lackland AFB in Texas and later attend a school. Sgt Lillie notes open Army and Air Force postings and Wednesday enlistment hours in Richwood.

Mead Hawley wedding at First Baptist Summit

Richard C. Mead and Miss Lois Elaine Hawley wed at the First Baptist Church of Summit New Jersey in a candlelight ceremony. The bride wore a white gown with lace inserts and carried white carnations. They plan to live in New Providence Garden apartments after September 1. Both are graduates of Ohio Wesleyan University. Mead will teach science and math in Chatham schools after September while service in World War II is noted. The couple is touring Canada and the Midwest before settling in New Jersey.

Word has reached that William Olean Peyton of Toronto died June 19 from heart trouble. His mother Mrs Ida Peyton of Richwood attended the funeral in Canada and remains there with relatives. He leaves two sisters Helen and Cuba Peyton of Richwood a brother Eugene Peyton of Columbus a wife and two children in Toronto.

Storm Winds Tear Through City Disrupting Power Lines

A severe late Sunday storm with wind and hail damaged trees and homes in Richwood. Telephone lines broken at South Franklin Street and a large tree limb fell in front of the Jack Weller residence. Damage extended to East and West Ottawa streets and rural farms. Farmers face delays as rains persist and trees age.

Glen Oman heads Richwood Lions Club as officers for 1951 1952 are installed during the annual ladies night held at the high school. A turkey dinner fed 175. Rev. Harry Parrott led devotions. Lawn Poultry Show Draws Wide District Attendance

The lawn poultry show, held last Sunday in the poultry building at the fairgrounds, drew over 500 entries from as far as Minnesota, with judges including E H Miller and H C Groll. Local members received awards across large fowl, bantams, and junior divisions, highlighting a strong interest in junior poultry projects and inviting others to join the Central Ohio Poultry Club.
