News from Richwood area reports a fire on the C. D. Stickles farm five miles northwest of Richwood destroying the dwelling and framing with losses around 1300 dollars. The same column notes deaths weddings travels and a local farmer I N Roberts dies after an appendicitis operation leaving a wife and two sons.
Daniel E. Cowgill of Delaware has been elected superintendent of Richwood public schools and will move here soon. Nearby notes report J. B. Wells returning to El Dorado Kansas after a visit, J. W. Schultz ending his Stony Point school term with a picnic, A J Blake returning from Dakota trip, and L H Stevenson constructing a handsome stable at Blagrove and Clinton streets.
Miss Madge Brobeck hosted a linen shower at her mother Mrs Lettie Brobeck of Richwood on Wednesday night honoring Miss Bea Myers of Marion whose wedding is this month. A second announcement noted the February 11 1931 Newport Kentucky marriage of Miss Glendora Sims and William McFarlin both of Marion. The evening featured bridge and a luncheon.
Jackson Grange met Friday evening June 22 with Master Ralph White presiding. Business urged unity and fair exhibit planning. Roy Fry named a July contest committee: Lucy Foos Homer Fox Ralph White Ray Reesey and spouse. Sheldon Robertson presented a canvas tour of Spain Germany France Mexico to over 150 attendees. Visitors from Millcreek Radnor Granges spoke. Cake and ice cream refreshments followed.
Sarah Adair Street age 81 died at her Beatty Avenue home after a two year illness. Born in London November 15, 1852 she married Dr. L. L. Street in 1874, who died in 1927. Survived by two children Bruce and Nelle, a grandson George Street and granddaughter Mary Esther Sunday. Funeral Sunday at 3 30 p.m. in Richwood M E church with Rev H M Carpenter. burial Claiborne cemetery. Lloyd Winter & Son funeral directors.
Lawson B. Harvey 76 a former Union county surveyor and assistant surveyor in Hardin and Madison counties was killed by blows from an 18 inch stake. His wife was beaten and Edward Harvey 63 stabbed. Roy Harvey 40 wounded himself after the attack. All were taken to Mary Rutan hospital. Roy contemplated military hospital transfer when the killings occurred.
Relatives and friends from distant towns attended the funeral of Mrs. Sarah Street. Among them were Mr. and Mrs. Howard Street and Miss Dorothy Street. Mr. and Mrs. Pern Wheeler. Ledman of LaRue. Mr. and Mrs. J. A. McDaniel of Carey. and Theodore Kinnear of Marion.
Richwood Troop 124 plans Camp Marriott five miles northwest of town on Marriott woods. The semi community project will welcome Girls Scouts and other groups for picnics and gatherings once shelters and wells are installed. A fundraising committee led by Robert F. Allen will seek local support.
Monday evening the Count on Me class of Essex surprised their teacher Mrs. Winifred White with a picnic supper. The group enjoyed games bathing and contests along Rush Creek with attendees including Rachel Barker Ruth Blue Cleo Mary Cheney Mrs. Paul Cramer Elizabeth Ruth Davis Pauline Ruth and Winifred Hoffman Onalee Holt Donna Mae Houk Edna Maybelle Parish Ethel Ethyl Swartz Lois Thelma Watkins.
Farmers report wheat cutting underway two weeks earlier than normal due to warm dry weather. Crop appears fairly good for a dry season with ripening ahead of schedule. Corn in the area also looks strong following recent rains.
Giles McDaniel the son of Mr and Mrs Frank McDaniel graduated from the Miami Jacobs School of Commerce at Dayton last Thursday and has accepted a position with Nelson Browning Security Co of Cincinnati with headquarters in Dayton.
Thomas P. Neel 88 a Richwood resident died at his North Franklin Street home Thursday night from a cerebral hemorrhage following a light stroke a month earlier He was born August 20 1845 in Licking County survived by widow a daughter in law Stella Neel and brothers William Magnetic Springs and John Richwood Funeral at home Sunday 1 30 p m Rev A Hootman with Lloyd Winter Son handling interment at Claiborne Cemetery
Ruth Slack daughter of J Ray Slack of Claiborne and Fred Swambaugh son of A D Swambaugh of Angola Ill formerly of Claiborne were married Monday June 18 in Kentucky The bride a Richwood high school and Marion Business College graduate and noted violinist The groom a Cincinnati high school graduate works for Angola Coal Co They will reside in Angola.
About 25 neighbors gathered at the home of Mr and Mrs Ernest Fields east of Richwood to celebrate the joint birthday on June 20 and 21. The event was a surprise for Mrs Fields with guests bringing well filled baskets and a luncheon served late.
Mrs M M Cameron marks her 65th birthday with a celebratory dinner hosted by Mr and Mrs Marion Cameron at their home. Attending were Mr and Mrs M M Cameron Mr and Mrs E E Keenan Dr F M Wurtsbaugh Thomas Yearsley of Broadway and Miss Dorothy Cameron plus Miss Minnie Cameron and Sewell Cameron of Richwood. Afternoon visitors included Mr and Mrs Arnold Van Atta and their son Mr and Mrs Nye Hamilton and Janice Moyer.
The Finnetta class at the M P Sunday school met Thursday night in church parlors for a business session led by the president. Mrs Flora Davis and Mrs Carrie Douglas presented readings while Jean Sloop performed a recitation. Grace Temple won the contest and refreshments were provided by several members.
Mrs Blanche Langstaff of Plain City returns home after several weeks visiting relatives in eastern Ohio. She stayed with Rev E K Barrs and family of Coshoc ton and Rev W S Mowery and family of Warsaw and spent a half day at the M P home for the aged in West Lafayette.

Mr and Mrs Gordon E Wheeler west of Richwood plan a open house July 5 for their golden wedding. They were married July 3 1884 at Richwood by Rev D Bowers. He is 70 she 67 with five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Richwood streets hosted a weekly merchant sponsored entertainment with 768 tickets sold for round and square dancing. Clyde Lewis sang two solos while Miranda Gonello and Rollang Dixon performed on Hawaiian guitar and banjo as crowds grow toward a thousand dancers before season end.
The Count on Me class met at Miss Ruth and Miss Winifred Hoffman home on Friday afternoon June 22. Ice cream and cake were served. Lloyd Winter underwent cataract surgery at University Hospital in Columbus last Thursday morning. His condition is reported good, and he is expected to stay in the hospital for about two weeks.
