Local Red Cross unit reports funds near full quota after Wednesday meeting. Solicitors prepare to respond to appeals for subscriptions as community support remains strong and focused on meeting the target.
Richwood and Claiborne township led a county wide Red Cross appeal raising 2189.50 toward an $8000 target. By midweek total county contributions reached 14510 with towns listing varied sums and a strong per person average of about 10 dollars.

Fire at the O. C. Storms country residence east of West Mansfield completely destroyed the house after a chimney spark ignited the roof. Mrs. Storms attended church in York while the congregation assisted but could not save the structure. Loss estimated at 2000 with 1300 insured.
The damage case of Bess Payne of Marysville against the Erie railroad was settled out of court on Wednesday morning and will not proceed in common pleas court. Payne sought 10 000 damages for injuries from the Erie passenger train wreck at Urbana on October 7 1916. The suit had been assigned for May 17 but was continued.
Capt Newlove and Lieut Beightler of Co E Marysville led three recruits Isaac Beech Homer Knick and Ray Jacobs to sign the drill payroll in Richwood last Friday night after a short street drill Fred Hamilton had enlisted weeks earlier and joined the squad during the same drill period
In Claiborne township dry voters heavily outnumbered wets in a referendum on saloons. Drys 202 to wets 20 overall, with 90 11 in the north precinct and 112 9 in the south. Dry organizers urged the election amid fears of a nearby saloon, while temperance workers stayed vigilant.
A recent heat wave in southern California damaged 30 to 60 percent of lemon trees, harming both young and mature fruit. Limited imports and continued high temperatures could push lemon prices toward double, with damage also to oranges, walnuts, beans, and sugar beets.
The state utilities commission authorized Richwood Light Heat and Power to issue 20000 in refunding and mortgage bonds. Permission to issue 20000 in preferred stock is withheld for the present.

Seven families were quarantined and about a dozen exposed people vaccinated. Quarantines may last about three weeks as Delaware city appears spared.
A state utilities board inspection condemns the Prospect cemetery vault built in 1886 as unsafe and in need of repair or removal. No action has been taken by the cemetery trustees. The vault has long been described as deteriorating and a danger to interior users.
State Highway Commissioner Cowen will award 26 contracts Wednesday for highway construction and improvement in 21 counties. The project covers 67.34 miles with an estimated cost of $367,774. Notable items include Muskingum county Zanesville Dresden road at one mile and maintenance on Portage Trumbull inter-county highways 331 329 and 80 totaling 8.17 miles.
Those traveling from Marion Marysville and Toledo attended the funeral of the late Henry Long Saturday afternoon. Names listed include John Landon George Smith Frank Beeny Ella Landon and Donald L McCombs.
The 1916 United States Department of Agriculture year book offers reports from the bureaus and divisions with special agent papers and illustrations for farmers. It includes the Secretary of Agriculture report and a general department operations summary, 783 pages and 90 illustrations. Copies are free via Congressman S. D. Fess in Washington D C.
In a six week tabernacle campaign in Kenton led by Dr. George W. Anderson, 2015 people attended the event. On the final day his offering reached 2153 dollars.
Miss Hazel White and Frank E. Riley married Wednesday at the White residence on Blain avenue. The Rev. C. B. Cramer officiated at 8 p m with immediate families present. The couple will reside in their new home as Miss White remains a Richwood teacher and Riley manages local creameries.
Five Gill brothers gathered Sunday at C. F. Gill’s West Ottawa Street home in a rare reunion. H. D. Gill of Richwood J. S. Gill and T. J. Gill both of Columbus C. F. Gill of Richwood and Edwin S. Gill of Seattle attended. T J and J S returned to Columbus while Edwin S. Gill headed to Washington D C and then New York before returning to Seattle.
Reverend J. R. Lloyd conducted the Radnor funeral for Robert T. Evans, 56, who died after a long heart illness. Survived by widow, son Thomas, daughter Mrs. Florence Zeigler. Burial followed at Radnor cemetery after a Sunday service at the Radnor home.
County commissioners held a hearing on objections to road assessments in Liberty and Taylor townships. Three or four property owners argued the charges were too high. The Delaware and Bellefon taine Pike project is expected to be completed this summer.
Magnetic Springs businessmen schedule a big July Fourth celebration with an various events. Richwood has limited plans, only a band concert noted as part of July series.
Henry Long longtime Richwood resident dies after a year long illness he was born in December 1831 in Pennsylvania and would have turned 86 next birthday he leaves a widow one son William H Long a grandson Donald L McCombs and two great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at his home with Dr O L Curl officiating and he is buried in Prospect Cemetery.

A family reunion of siblings gathered at the home of Mrs. Rosa Carroll and her son George on South Clinton Street Sunday June 24. Attending were J. D. Dumbauld and spouse T. J. Daumbauld and G. W. Daumbauld and spouses, Susan Bishop, Irene Dumbauld, Taylor and Willis Bishop and spouses, all from Alexandria Ohio, E. Smith of Terre Haute Indiana, Charles Daniels of Newark Ohio, T. W. Nickel and sons William Robert Lyal and George, and M. E. Carroll of Marion.
The county commissioners granted two sheep claims totaling 283.40. L. A. Taylor was allowed 140 for fourteen sheep and Simon Staley 143.40 for seventeen sheep, all killed by dogs.

Congressman Fess will announce Albert B. Seitz of Springfield Ohio as principal candidate for the U S Military Academy at West Point.
