The Richwood Village Council votes unanimously to discontinue street cleaning and sprinkling after July 1 due to finances. Mayor salaries face cuts, notably Chief of Police C W Sloop, who has earned 45 dollars monthly plus prosecution fees, with the town burdened by debt and lost liquor tax revenue.
Mr Simmons spoke at the Methodist Episcopal church describing Navaho life in New Mexico. Dressed in Navaho costume, he shared many interesting details about the tribe and the schools run under the Woman's Home Missionary Society.
Mrs Bessie Hartpence of Columbus and Mr Oliver C Jones wed in Cincinnati on June 11 and returned to Richwood to live on his farm three miles southwest. A neighbor gathering welcomed the couple with cakes and ice cream. Local residents Joe Beckley and family visited Russell Point on the Lewistown reservoir for a fishing outing with Perry Imbody.
A surprise party at the home of Mr and Mrs John Styer southeast of Richwood celebrated his thirtieth birthday. Guests from Union Marion and Delaware counties attended. gifts included useful presents and post cards. Guests arrived early and a noon dinner was served before departures with wishes for more happy days.
Mr and Mrs Ralph Case traveled to Licking county on Sunday to spend the day with Ralphs uncle Henry Case and his family.
Bethlehem M P church schedules Sunday services for June 30 1912 with Bible school at 9 15 am supervised by John Dungan and preaching at 10 30 am and 7 30 pm the topics Glorying in the Cross and Declaration About the Wicked plus a Thursday prayer meeting at 7 30 pm and guest speaker Miss Rogers the Indians missionary from Oklahoma visiting the school and church members extend invitations to all. Also notes a visit by the Shur and Baldridge families to Richwood and McCombs residence.
The village reveals depleted service and safety funds, with bank certificates of indebtedness and a looming $2,600 yearly street light obligation. Banks refuse further loans under the Smith one per cent law, forcing a plan to issue bonds after a public election with a two-thirds vote.
Mr and Mrs C M Baumgardner mourn the loss of their infant daughter Fairley Ernestine Baumgardner born May 20 who died at five weeks from whooping cough. Survived by a brother eight. Funeral services were held at the home Wednesday with Rev Charles B Cramer, burial at Claiborne cemetery.
Miss Lena Beckley entertained a large group of young friends at a Friday barn party on south Franklin street. The new barn was decorated with pennants and banners, with Walter Scott and Luke Harrison providing music. Ice cream and cake were served late, and guests included Marjorie Curry, Bertha Young, Mana Fletcher, Marie Spratt, Mary Sloop, Ruth Robinson, Josephine Hoser, Nellie Bumgarner, Jessie Fifer, Gladys Koch, Olive Fifer, Irene Keller, Bessie Vestal, Cecil Elliott, and Gladys.
Mrs. George Long of LaRue hosted M. C. Long and daughter Nellie last week. Guests Sunday included Mrs. C. H. Topliff, Miss Lena Topliff, Mr. Floyd Topliff and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Topliff, all of LaRue.
The roster lists Doyle and Elmer Barker among local attendees with a long line of names including Elmer Barker Charles Boyd Robert Graham Rush Seig Marion Scott Sam Seig Walter Scott Charles Fox Billy Berke Paul Rosette Ernest Benton Perry Adams Llewelyn Jones Elmo Sedley Vernal Zuspan Ernest Moore Marion Schambs Ralph Horton Wilber Cassady Gilbert Beem Harold Metcalfe. Out of town guests include Miss Blanche Bain of Marion Miss Jennie Baker of Green Camp Miss Ferrel Schweinfurth of Bucyrus and Miss Trella Wynegar of Columbus.
Mrs Frank Young a bride of two weeks hosted a two day house party at her home two miles north of Richwood. The guest list included Mrs O M Young Mrs C L Price Mrs Lorena Cobb and several teachers from Marion city schools.
The Hanover family held its first annual reunion on a Wednesday, June 19, at the rural home of Mr. and Mrs. Rees Price near Richwood. About forty family members attended, sharing a noon dinner and an afternoon business meeting. Officers were elected and plans set to meet again next June at Center Village, Delaware county, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Keildon. Distants attendees included Mr. and Mrs. Foster Jewell of Toledo with Paul and Margaret, Mr. and Mrs. Gail Hoover and sons Ernest and Clarence, and several Hanover relatives from Center Village, Delaware, Prospect, and surrounding areas.
F. L. Winter sells a half interest to Paul E. Hutchinson effective Aug. 1 and the firm will be Winter & Hutchinson. The current cut price sale continues until Aug. 1 with extra reductions on furniture and rugs. Winter and his son plan a new store in Ashland, Ohio under Winter & Son with the junior partner managing.
The Maddex family thanks Mr and Mrs Joe Kinikin for acts of kindness during a family reunion. Guests Mr and Mrs Cassius McAllister and Little Gladys Bown Ruth Bown and Lydia Gardner visited west of town from Thursday to Saturday. The children enjoyed the country visit and returned home elated.
