Skidmore Receives DFC for Vietnam Rescue Mission

U S Air Force Captain John B. Skidmore son of Dorothy and the late John O Skidmore 288 S Franklin Sr earned the Distinguished Flying Cross for leading a UH 1F helicopter team to rescue an 18 man recon unit near Song Be Vietnam He directed escort gunships to cover the withdrawal and prevent allied losses He also earned Air Medals and an Air Force Commendation Medal for service with the 20th Special Operations Squadron at Nha Trang and as a B 52 pilot at Griffin AFB New York He is a Richwood High School and Ohio State University graduate married to Nancy Evans

Pomona Grange Meeting Highlights at Millcreek In June

Pomona Grange met with Millcreek Grange on a Thursday evening in Union County. Worthy Master Lawrence Davis led the session as Leesburg received the attendance banner. A memorial service was held for Grange members who died in the past year. The group planned a Grange tour and discussed attending the National Convention in Daytona Beach November 10 to 19.

Youth 18 Charged After Auto Crash In Richwood

Richwood police charged Duane Gruber, 18, of Rt. 3 with peeling and fleeing an officer after a cruiser pursuit ended in a crash on Delaware County Rd 180. Gruber appeared in Mayor's Court July 2 and later pleaded guilty in Delaware Court to reckless operation, fined 25 dollars with costs and six month license suspension.

Colleen Guy Returns From Hawaii R and R Visit

Mrs Colleen Guy came home from Hawaii where her husband Spec 4 Thomas E Guy joined her on R and R from South Vietnam. He returned to Saigon June 16 and will stay in the Hue area to complete a year’s tour. He is due home October 6. They have a 10 month old daughter Stacey Annette who missed the trip due to chicken pox.

Local 4-Hers Attend Congress In Columbus

The 52nd annual 4 H Club Congress ran June 10 to 14 at Ohio State University Columbus with theme The Possible Dream. Notables Marilyn Van Derber Atler and Dr Clair Warden spoke on personal goals careers and dreams while Congressman Lukens urged youth responsibility to government. Delegates toured OSU departments visited the state capital held a mock legislature defeating a gun control bill with Union Co delegates voting opposed. Evening events included games a Jerry Rasor dance IFYE programs a hoot nanny a swim show and banquet with the Columbus Symphony Youth Orchestra at Mirror Lake. Paulding Couple Killed in Auto Accident

Residents' son J Leroy Tanner of Richwood and his wife Colleen died when their car left the road near Paulding and rolled over. Tanner, a 4 month old son Troy survives with his mother Georgia Reed of Amlin a sister Maryann Gibson of Columbus a brother Eugene of Amlin and several half siblings. Double funeral services were held June 17 for the couple.
