Claiborne Rebekah Lodge Holds School of Instruction

The Claiborne Rebekah Lodge No. 267 held a Tuesday June 24 special session for District No. 31. State officers Blanche Moorman and Anna I Henderson attended with Ruth Manly representing District 31. Initiatory instruction and district officer elections followed a 1:30 p.m. start and a six o'clock dinner. Four candidates were initiated and the lodge earned a good inspection grade from State President Blanche Moorman.

Jolliffs Welcome Twin Sons at Marion City Hospital

Mr and Mrs William Jolliff greet twin boys born last Sunday morning at Marion City Hospital named Ronald Eugene and Donald Wayne. Mrs Jolliff, formerly Opal Riffie, is daughter of Lloyd and Opal Riffie of Marion. Mr Jolliff is son of Ed and (late) Richwood natives.

Claiborne Sew-So 4-H Club Meets for Seventh Time

King's Daughters Picnic At Baptist Church

The Sunshine Circle of the King's Daughters held a Monday picnic in the Baptist church basement with tables set for 22 guests. Miss Rosella Hostler of Findlay, guest of Mrs. Millie Howe, attended as an out‑of‑town guest. Meetings will pause until September 1 when the new officers are installed.

Grange Meeting Presided by Zane Randall in Claiborne

The Claiborne Grange met on Monday June 23 with Zane Randall presiding. Two membership candidates were voted on and seven entries competed in the dress contest won by Joan Cramer with Mrs Wm Durbin and Valera Grindell placing second and third. Judges were Ellen Nedds and Daisy Warner.

The engagement of Ruth H Johnson to Dan G Stevens is announced by Ruth’s mother Mrs E A Johnson of Buffalo NY. Stevens a Ohio State alumnus and Phi Kappa Phi member will marry this fall and reside at Whitestone Long Island. Stevens is a war veteran with a presidential citation.

Farm Bureau Council Met At Hickok Residence

Farm Bureau Council No. 16 met Wednesday evening June 18 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hickok. Roy Hoffman presided with eleven members present. Sam Burbaugh led the discussion hour Nellie Hoffman and Lillie Burbaugh organized recreation. Prizes went to Bertha Davis and Lawrence Dodrill. A lunch was served by the hosts and their daughter Eilene. The next meeting, a picnic supper, will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Burbaugh on Sunday evening July 13.

Local Social News and a Stolen Car Recovery

Miss Helen Frum and Raymond Frum plan a California visit, stopping in Indianapolis to see a brother and wife. Various visits fill the week as A E Jones and Phelps hosts, Adams and Cushman families gather, and a Ford belonging to Homer Fox is recovered in Prospect after being stolen in Marion last week. The Comston farm home burned last Saturday noon with all contents saved except the dwelling.

W C T U Tea Draws Members at First Methodist

The W C T U held a Friday tea June 20 at the First Methodist church led by president Clara Smith. Devo tions by Leafa Davis featured piano solos by John Moyer and Rheba Moyer and a message by Gwen Moyer concluding with A Hundred Fifty-First Psalm. Tea served by Beryl Hawk Eva Donahoe and Ruth Merriman. A County Institute July 10 at 10 AM and 2 PM with a noon potluck dinner will replace July meeting. August gathering at Clara Smith's home.

Guest Day at First Methodist Church Features Family Talk

The W.S.C.S. of the First Methodist Church held Guest Day on June 18 with opening by president Mrs. Lawrence Davis. Rev. Springer of East Liberty spoke on The Family and Home and its Christian Relationships, followed by readings, poems, and musical performances. Refreshments were served and no July meeting will be held. The annual family picnic is set for August 13 with location to be announced.

The Michigan Conference met June 4 to 9 and adopted a strict liquor memorial. It forbids any church member who drinks liquor in any form from serving on the official board of any Methodist church.

The Forest Methodist church choir directed by Kenneth Glendening sings at First Methodist Church Sunday evening at 8 o clock.
