Richwood’s ten day bicentennial event moves into final phase with a flag pageant by Whitehall Yearling High School students from Columbus and a colorful fireworks display by North Union FFA at Richwood Park. Rural residents note they could see the entire celebration clearly from the surrounding area.
Michael D. Wallace of Franklin is appointed head football coach at North Union High School for the 1976 77 school year. Wallace will also coach baseball and teach math, with a history of teaching and coaching in Brunswick City Schools Ball State and Franklin High School. He attended Bowling Green State University and Ball State for advanced degrees and played catcher for BGSU baseball, drawing tryouts from three pro teams. He and his wife Patricia Ann reside at 105 Harding Court Franklin.
W. P. Drake of Richwood nominates a 2 year old Quarter Horse to the world’s richest Race Futurity at the All American Quarter Horse Congress Oct 19 24. The purse exceeds 75000 with 127 entries and sustaining payments. The Congress marks its 10th anniversary with demonstrations exhibits and racing plus entertainment by Bobby Goldsboro.
Strong winds and heavy rain buffeted Richwood last Friday evening, uprooting trees and breaking branches. The worst damage occurred in the northwest area near Mulvaine Rd and Grove St where a large tree caused a power outage on Grove St including Community Apartments. power returned by Saturday morning. Lightning and weighty rain worsened branch failures as Edison crews worked through the weekend. rainfall totaled about 2 inches, with debris cleanup ongoing.
North Union Board approves six resignations including Powers Seiter Sawyer Watterson Peoples and Allen. The session also covers debt moves from funds totaling 85 000 plus notes and a 11 400 roof repair bid from Holter Co. Work to start July 1 with a two year guarantee and state leave policy clarified for non certified staff.
The Richwood Bicentennial Coordination group schedules a meeting on Tuesday June 29 at 8 p.m. at 4164 Boundary Road hosted by Mrs Miriam Case. Members and participants are urged to bring outstanding bills reports and comments related to Bicentennial activities.
John R. Bell of Richwood was elected Chairman of the Republican Central Committee at a June 21 meeting in Marysville at First National Bank Stocksdale Plaza. Walter Herd was named Vice Chairman Lowell Wilson Secretary and John Jolliff Treasurer. Terms run two years.
A two vehicle collision occurred Monday June 14 at about 12 45 pm at the intersection of E Ottawa and Clinton Streets. Mary Lou Ferguson and two passengers were taken to a local physician after being struck by Virginia L McKnight. No citations issued. investigation ongoing.
Ralph F. E. Nicol won the Darby North Republican precinct committeeman race, defeating Richard Boerger 91 to 46 in the June 8 primary. Nicol’s victory joins the list of elected committeemen in the district.
Park director Jack Stout unveils a July 10 tennis tournament at Richwood courts with two age brackets 14 to 17 and 18 and older. Events include boys and girls singles, mens singles and doubles, and womens singles. single elimination best of three. Registration by mail ends July 8 with fees 1.50 or 2.50 per event.

Richwood Gun and Game Club capped its Goat project by naming five prize winners last Friday. Winners each receive a goat within a 50 mile radius, with tickets tied to original purchasers Otto Howell Grindell Road Nick Protopapas 2484 Gast Drive Prospect Jack Lee Route 3 Marengo Willard Ciola 206 Forest Street Marion and Ron Ray Radnor.
A cyclist and a car collide at Sieg's alley on N Franklin St near Richwood. Jerry Kiiber 11 of Pearl St was riding northbound when he struck a northbound car driven by Bryce Kirby 17 of Bomford St. No citations issued. emergency squad took Kiiber to a local physician. Police say bike had no lights. Officer Ptl. Bob Reese investigated.
