North Union Board Raises Salaries to State Minimum

The North Union Board of Education voted to raise teacher and staff salaries to state minimum standards for certified and non certified personnel for the 77 78 school year. They ratified a classroom teacher association contract and approved extended duty contracts for various staff duties and club sponsorships.

Miss Cherie Smith, salutatorian of the class of 77 with a 3.945 GPA, is active in Scholastic Team National Honor Society Spanish and French clubs. She contributed to the school newspaper staff and annual, starred in the senior class play, choir, variety show and Powderpuff Football, and enjoys 4-H sewing and needlework.

Sheriff Probes Brick-Throwing Incident at Don Poland Home

Union County deputies investigate a June 18 incident at 17622 State Route 47 where an unknown assailant threw two bricks through a side window and storm door while the Poland teenage daughter was home alone. The Polands returned and alerted authorities.

Richwood Independent Agricultural Society announces 1977 fair updates including Youth Day 4-H club competition, July premium mailing, a Sunday 7 PM religious service, The Caldwells entertainment, 50 cent grandstand charges for Sunday and Demolition Derby, free grandstand at other times, and a Friday 8 PM round and square dance led by Junior Fair Board.

Petition Filed For 6 Percent Alcohol In Richwood

Earl Beckley of Corner Recreation leads a petition to place a 6 percent beer wine and liquor issue on Richwood ballots after November. Signatures needed are 245 representing 35 percent of last governor race electorate. If approved, 6 percent beverages may be sold in village limits with taxes funneled to the general fund.

North Union honors spring sports at banquet

North Union fans and boosters celebrated the annual Spring Sports Banquet with awards for All League Mid-Ohio selections All County honorees and Extra Effort Awards from Marion Power Shovel Co. Outstanding Athlete Brian Hamilton received the top honor. Scholarships to Trainers Camp at Ashland College were awarded to Sallie Sheets and Steve Kidwell.

Crop Insurance Deadline set for June 30

Farmers in the 1977 Federal Crop Insurance Program must report planted spring crop acres by June 30. Mailed forms reach all 1977 insureds and late filing could render crops uninsurable for 1977. Lions Club plans a July 17 Family Fun Festival at Richwood Park with a barbequed chicken dinner menu including baked beans chips cole slaw orange drink coffee and rolls. Entertainment features include Snake Races a ball game and a water fight with other attractions to be announced plus a 3 minute shopping spree prize at T A Quality Supermarket.
