Special Council approves zoning change for Cosmo Plastics plant

In a special session last Monday the Richwood Village Council unanimously approved changing the zoning from commercial to industrial for Cosmo Plastics to build a one purpose plant at the former Richwood Bowling Lanes site. The project is expected to invest about $500,000 and hire 50 to 60 workers, with construction possibly starting next week after a building permit is issued.

Funeral Home Change Ownership Announces New Leader

Edward Stofcheck assumes control of S Howard Cheney Funeral Home operation in Richwood effective Friday June 15. The Stofcheck family plans to maintain the residence and expand services to include emergency and invalid ambulance service with Tom Miller managing the Richwood office. Stofcheck, a 1962 Pittsburgh Institute graduate, has run Stofcheck Ford Funeral Home in LaRue since 1969 and is a longtime Pennsylvania native.

Fulton Ditch Project Approved by Union County Commissioners

Union County Commissioners approved the Fulton Creek Ditch project with a projected cost of 601277 dollars. The plan covers 14.58 miles of ditching affecting over 600 landowners and includes a final hearing to determine individual assessments used to cover costs.

Fire Run Reported at Richwood Park Repair Shop

Fire officials responded to a blaze at Richwood Park where acetylene torches were in use during metal repair. The incident occurred Monday at 8:15 a.m. No injuries reported. unknown damage at the scene.

First County House Numbers Released In Area

Residents on Zook Wallance McMillen Meddles Forrider Snare and Roach & Linn Roads received new house numbers assigned by James Page Union County Environmental Engineer. Other residents will get numbers over the next two years as postmasters and officials allow the project to proceed.

Seek Funds For Emergency Squad Five Townships Will Contract Service

Union County meeting chaired by Prosecutor Gary McKinley reviewed emergency service plans in northern Union County. Five townships Richwood Magnetic Springs will contract with Richwood for two emergency vehicles funded by federal grants with radio support from the sheriff and Richwood police. Funeral directors Ballinger Storbeck agreed to handle hospital transport and answer calls until the squad is operational.

West Mansfield teen to visit Brazil on exchange program

Seventeen year old Steve Harder son of Mr and Mrs Leroy Harder Rt 1 West Mansfield leaves June 25 for a two month visit in Recife Brazil through the Youth for Understanding exchange program. He will tour colleges and sights and return August 23 after working at the Plaza Inn Mt Victory since last September to fund the trip.
