Little League Opens 1962 Season With 100+ Players

The 1962 Little League base ball season starts with the largest participation in league history. Over 100 boys on six sponsor teams, split into A and B squads, with schedules for Monday B and Tuesday A games.

Memorial Hospital Hosts Birthday Party for 3 Year Olds

A shaded back area of Memorial Hospital in Union County hosted the annual birthday party for 3 year olds born there. The event drew 102 children including four sets of twins and was organized by the Women's Auxiliary Executive Board. Janet Green of WTVN performed Cinderella styled entertainment. Prizes for the Lollipop Hunt were awarded, and ice cream and punch were served to children and parents.

Carl Rockhold Presided At Grange Meeting

Jackson Grange No. 2422 met in regular form with W M Carl Rockhold presiding and eight officers assisting. The meeting opened with Sweet Hour of Prayer and the National Anthem, minutes and a bill were approved, aid was appealed for, several communications read, Linda Hall reported ill, and cupcakes and ice cream were served after closing.

Richwood Fair Board Seeks Bids for New Horse Barn

The Richwood Fair Board invites bids to construct a new horse barn at the fairgrounds. The 76 by 88 foot building will house about thirty horses and include two tack rooms. Work would begin in July if a satisfactory bid is received amid rising entries in harness racing.

Richwood Chamber Elects Officers for Coming Year

The Richwood Chamber of Commerce elected five directors for three-year terms at its June 14 meeting. Tom Thomasson became president, C W Swartz the first vice president, and W C Spain the second vice president. The group discussed current projects including Friday street dances and free skating for children to boost Richwood.

Dan Hamilton Wins DeKalb Award at York Center High

Dan Hamilton son of Mrs Rose Hamilton of York Center won the DeKalb agricultural prize for leadership and farming activities during four years of high school. He served as FFA student advisor and was on the livestock judging team, president of the Richwood Junior Fair Board and of his senior class. He plans to enter farming and is the twelfth recipient from the school.

4-H Camp Reservations Urged for June Deadline

Eligible 4-H members should return enrollment slips early to secure camp spots. The deadline is June 27 with selection based on arrival order at the extension office if enrollments exceed capacity. Camp Clifton near Yellow Springs Ohio hosts the session July 9 through 14 featuring a vacation styled program of fun and education.

Former Resident Electrocuted While Erecting Antenna

Sgt. Robert E. Millington of Camp Lejeune died after his metal antenna shaft touched a 7000 volt line. He suffered no heartbeat en route to Ons low Memorial Hospital and died at 3 15 p m. Burial was held at Arlington National Cemetery. He is survived by wife Jane and two children plus a daughter from a former marriage and numerous relatives.

Clarence Laucher 67 railroad man dies in Marion Ohio

Clarence Otto Laucher 67 of 30 Herbert Street Rich wood died at 5:05 p m Thursday afternoon in Marion General Hospital Ohio after two years of ill health. He spent 40 years with the railroad and later operated the C O Freight Agency in Rich wood. He was born February 16 1895 and survived by wife Gertrude Dilsaver two children eight grandchildren three brothers and one sister. Funeral 2:00 p m Sunday June 17 Ballinger Funeral Home with burial in Calborne Cemetery.

Two Ohio high school students are finalists in Teen Time magazine's Teen King and Queen contest. Local Boy Narrowly Escapes Injury on Bike

Terry Morgan ten year old son of Mr and Mrs Lester Morg an of North Clinton Street was struck by a car while cycling through the alley behind the Red Brelsford residence onto Wood Street. He escaped with no injuries and the driver was not held. Mr and Mrs Ralph Fausnaugh left Saturday on a two weeks vacation trip through the South.
