Annual Lawn Show Of Poultry Club In Richwood Fair Grounds

The seventh annual Lawn Show of the Central Ohio Poultry Club will be held at the Richwood Fair Grounds Sunday, June 25 in the poultry building. About 500 birds are expected across large fowl and bantams with national judges and a junior division. Prizes include ribbons for 1st to 3rd and purple specials, plus trophies for best bantams and large fowl varieties. Admission is free and lunch is available on the grounds.

The W S C S of the Central Methodist Church met in the church parlors with Mrs. Edna Obee presiding. Readings on God's Playground and Too Busy framed a program themed I Too Shall Give. Edna Obee was named president and officers Inez Middleton vice president Ruth Smith secretary Pearl Evans recording secretary Edna Baker treasurer and Dora Dirst church activities.

Jolly Troopers Class Enjoy Picnic Last Friday

Essex Sunday School class Jolly Troopers met with teachers Lenna Patterson and Pauline White for a Prospect Community Park picnic. A moonlit dinner followed with games and contests, and all sang Happy Birthday to June Ann Monson. Richwood Lions Club Hosts Ladies Night in Marion

Edgar Hastings president of the Richwood Lions Club attended by Mrs Hastings and Mr and Mrs D G Fryman of Richwood joined Marion guests for a ladies night dinner at the Marion Country Club during the officers installation of the Lion and Lioness Clubs Monday evening.

Mildred Allen Presided At WSCS Meeting

The Women's Society of Christian Service at the First Methodist Church met June 13 with Mildred Allen presiding. Devotions by Mrs. Helen Sieg covered Spiritual Efficiency. The program featured Mrs. Clara Smith with readings by Kay Southard, Carol Sue Kelly, Judy Lucas and Sherrell Ann Grandstaff, plus a piano solo by Charlotte Shields. Plans for a reception for new members on June 22 and a plaque dedication for Mrs. George Fisher on July 1 were announced.

Son of Local Resident Honored by Company

Harold A. Langstaff, son of Mrs. Minnie Langstaff of Richwood, was among 65 Farm Bureau Insurance employees honored at the annual June award dinner. He received a gold watch for 25 years of service and since 1926 has progressed from part time messenger to now superintendent of auto underwriting. Langstaff, a Richwood High School and Bliss College alumnus, is married to Elizabeth Philip and they have three children Judy James and Joan.

The Past Matron's Circle of the Eastern Star met at Mrs. Thelma Lee's home for a Tuesday noon gathering. A one o'clock luncheon followed a brief business session led by retiring president Mrs. D. E. Ogan. An impressive memorial service honored three deceased members, Mrs. Madeline Porter, Mrs. Blanche Tennant, and Mrs. Lucile Davis.

York S. S. Class Dinner At Lelan McMahon Home

The York United Brethren Sunday School class of the York area held its annual dinner Tuesday June 12 at Lelan McMahon's Richwood home. Installation Service Held Sunday Morning at First Methodist Richwood

The Official Board Board of Education and Church School Staff were installed at the First Methodist Church service. The Board of Education is led by D Kenneth Davis with James Emmons secretary and Mary Griffith treasurer. Church School Staff includes general superintendent A H Durnell and assistants D K Davis H R Fisher with a large listed roster. The two hour program runs 9:45 to 12:00 each Sunday with expanded children’s division activities during worship.

Reception for New Pastor Postponed Indefinitely

Rev Earnest Bein of the O W U at Delaware preached his first sermon Sunday at Central Methodist Church Richwood with his wife and four week old infant. After returning home Mrs Bein fell ill and was ordered to bed by her physician, causing the congregation to postpone the planned reception indefinitely.

Missionary Guest Speaker at W S C S Meeting

The W S C S of the Clarborne Methodist church held its June meeting on June 13 at Mrs. Arthur Warner’s home. Mary Webster, newly elected president, led a business session and roll call. Guest speaker Mrs. Charles A. Sauer, a missionary now in Pusan, recalled evacuations from Seoul to Japan in June 1950 and efforts to aid Korean Christians escaping communism. Refreshments followed.

Pilgrims Progress to be Shown at Union Baptist Church

The film Pilgrims Progress will be presented at Union Baptist Church in West Jackson on Sunday night June 24 at 8 o'clock. It chronicles a Christian's journey to the Celestial City and is acclaimed as one of the era’s top religious productions. This first local showing required six months of advance booking and runs 112 hours.

Crusaders Class Met Friday Night in Essex

The Crusaders group met in the Essex church basement for a regular gathering. Lucille Cramer led a prayer and Barbara Hoffman presented the hymn origin and a June themed story. A resignation from secretary Lenna Moore was approved and filled by Moore. The group planned a July 15 picnic and approved a $50 donation to Worthington Children's Home.

The Annie Richards Missionary Circle of the First Baptist Church held its June 7 meeting at Mrs. Minnie Storey’s home with about eighteen members and guests present. Howards Celebrate 25th Wedding Anniversary

The rural home of Mr and Mrs Ralph Howard Sr north of Essex hosted a 25th wedding anniversary with a noon family dinner and 3 to 6 pm open house. More than 90 guests from Columbus Delaware Marion and Richwood attended. Their three sons Robert Eugene Ralph James and Paul Lynn were present on furloughs from service.

Starlight Circle Receives District Recognition for Welfare Work

The Starlight Circle of The King's Daughters earned district recognition for aiding Native American communities. They collected clothing and staples, shipped a $6 cash donation to Miss Lida Chestnut, and chose the Navajo Reservation at Fort Defiance, Arizona, receiving warm thanks.

The Claiborne Rebekah Lodge No. 267 regular meeting was led by Mrs Francis Rosette Noble Grand.
