Alleged Wool Thief Held at Marysville

William Heath of near Plain City is bound over to the Union county grand jury in a $1000 bond on charges of stealing 63 fleeces of wool valued at $300 from Alexander Mitchell near Plain City. Farmers report wool losses around Plain City as they work to stop the theft. Heath cannot post bond and remains jailed in Marysville awaiting the next grand jury action.

Richwood Schools Awarded $500 State Aid

Representative Dallas Sullivan reports the state department allocated 500 dollars to the Richwood schools from the state aid fund. The final decision satisfies officials though the district was expected to receive about 3000 dollars.

Rebuilding West Ottawa Street Begun

A force of men started excavation for West Ottawa Street reconstruction with refilling and resurfacing to follow. Estimated at 7000 dollars the project will be mainly county funded from two mill road levy, with property owners and the village contributing portions. Kentucky asphalt will be used for the surface, though labor to push the work is tight.

Price Dies of Pneumonia at 55 in Radnor Region

Charles M. Price youngest brother of former Union County Sheriff Cad Price died at his Radnor home two miles north of the town from pneumonia. A 55 year old farmer born in Delaware County on September 2 1868 he was a Radnor Grange member and Congregational church parishioner. Survived by widow Minnie two daughters Mrs George Johnson of New York City and Mrs Otho Pollock of near Stratford one son Earl E two brothers John in Troy Township Thomas R in Radnor and sister Elizabeth Price funeral held at 10 am Saturday at the residence with Rev C Kuhn and Rev B Harris. burial in Radnor.

One Killed in Union County Dam Accident

Columbus reports Daniel McNeal aged 43 was killed and J W Underhill 17 injured when a five ton truck backing into them at the O Shaughnessy dam ran over McNeal. McNeal had worked at the dam two weeks and is believed from near Cincinnati. Underhill’s home is listed as Peoria Union County.

Oil Company Incorporated Seeks Stock Subscriptions

The Community Oil and Gas Company has been incorporated and the charter is available at Lloyd Winter's. Subscriptions are needed to begin drilling test wells. Subscribers should contact F. O. Penney or be ready to provide a check. Experts see strong prospect for a paying strike and over 6000 acres were leased near Richwood last week.

Mrs. M C Wolgamot and the Misses Mary and Anna Hastings hosted a 50 guest tea at Mrs Wolgamot’s home on Friday. Out of town guests included Mrs E B Gill Akron and others from Marion Oak Hill Wooster and Fostoria. Grace and Opal Carroll hosted a picnic at McKinley Park followed by theatre attendance. The Baptist young people held a miscellaneous shower for Mr and Mrs Lloyd Matton at J S Matton’s home on North Franklin Street with many gifts.

Davis Family Reunion at Dunbar Grove Draws 54 Attendees

The Davis reunion assembled 54 members and relatives at Dunbar grove on Sunday June 17. Attendees included Mr and Mrs B F Davis Richwood Mrs J C Carrol Fairport Harbor Ohio and several others from Neligh Marion Columbus Radnor Ohio Waldo Colorado Prospect and Marion communities. The day also featured a Baptist church Home and Foreign Missionary society meeting with hostesses and a program followed by lunch. About thirty Martha Washington circle members met at Mrs Frank Blair s home for a business meeting a short program and social hour.

The Aid Society of the M. P. church held its regular meeting at Mrs. C. E. Kinney's home on Friday afternoon with good attendance. The Washington Township High School Alumni Association held its annual banquet on June 16 in the auditorium. Fire tears through Scheiderer Motor Co garage in Marysville

A Sunday morning blaze at Scheiderer Motor Co garage in Marysville destroyed eight used cars and caused smoke damage to Wilkins Dry Goods and Kerr & Carmean stores. Two gasoline explosions worsened the fire. investigators suspect an auto short circuit as the likely cause, with all losses insured.

Boy Injured in Dynamite Cap Explosion

David Long sixteen the son of Mr and Mrs Frank Long of Frank Street was playing with friends in his yard when a dynamite cap exploded after being placed in a bonfire. He suffered severe eye and hand injuries and was taken to Jane M Case hospital. He is in seventh grade at East school.

Two Girls Catch 11-Pound Garfish in Ohio River Region

Miss Gwendolyn Hoppess and Miss Hazel Highland, students at Washington D. H. high school, claim a season’s record for the largest fish in the area after landing a garfish three feet eight inches long and weighing about 11 pounds near Waterloo. They fished from a boat using drop lines at Deercreek, baited with a sunfish to lure a big catch.

Locusts Not Expected to Invade This District

Entomologists at Ohio State University say a 17 year locust brood in southern Ohio near Chillicothe will not invade this district. The swarm covers parts of Kentucky West Virginia Virginia and Pennsylvania and damages forest trees as females lay eggs in twigs. Eggs hatch into nymphs by midsummer and reappear as swarms in 1940.
