Magnetic Springs Auxiliary Expands Volunteer Reach

Forty Magnetic Springs residents organized Branch No 6 of the Magnetic Springs Rehabilitation Center Auxiliary on June 12. The new unit plans officer elections at the June 26 charter meeting after a tour and presentation by auxiliary officials.

Claiborne S. S. Class Attends Yearsley Home Meeting

The Work and Win S. S. class of Claiborne Methodist Church met at the T. A. Yearsley home. President John Sidle led the session with devotions by Albert Howard. Mrs. Glenn Davis presented the secretary's report and oversaw the program and contests. Refreshments followed.

Joint Meeting Sets Plan for Claibourne Richwood and Jackson Eds

Two boards meet in Richwood high school and unanimously agree to consolidate under Sec 3311.26 to form a new district by January 1, 1958. The merged area covers about 65.3 square miles with a $6.92 million valuation, 784 elementary and 201 high school pupils, and 38 teachers.

Blasting Caps Warning From Union County Sheriff

Sheriff Edward Amrine warns parents and youth about blasting caps dangers after noting frequent injuries from accidents. Caps are small metal cylinders used in explosives, with open fuse or electric wires, and can detonate from heat shock or careless handling. He urges teaching children to recognize caps, avoid touching them, and call a grownup immediately.

Lawn Poultry Show At Richwood Draws Attendees From Far States

The thirteenth annual lawn poultry show at Richwood fair grounds drew visitors from several states including Florida. Nine hundred thirty-one birds were entered. Grand Champion trophy went to H. Bradshaw of Middlebury Indiana with B B Red Old English. Champion Large Fowl to James Stevenson of Van Buren Ohio. Multiple local winners named with various breeds and trophies awarded by club and associations.

Dare Devil Hawes Became Baptist Minister After Circus Life

Arizona paper recalls Rev. F. E. Hawes once led a dare devil show career from Huntington to the Midwest. He and his wife Ida Bailey later embraced the Baptist faith, with pastorates in Mesa Miami Glendale and Fullerton. The couple marked their 50th anniversary and Hawes now serves as interim pastor.
