Prospect July 4 Benefit Pool Fund Celebration

Prospect Ohio hosts a two day July 3 4 celebration to raise funds for a community pool. The event features a pet parade Miss Sun-Swim contest concessions pony rides and a two day schedule culminating in fireworks. Proceeds support Sun-Swim Inc and new pool construction.

Turning Lanes Planned at SR 31 Union County Intersect

The state highway department will add turning lanes at the State Route 31 and Union County Road 205 intersection this summer. Bids opened June 16 for the 3.3 mile widening and resurfacing project with an estimated cost of 55000 dollars. Completion is scheduled for September 15.

Prospect Exchange to gain new dial telephone service in 1960

Clare E. Williams of General Telephone Company of Ohio announced on June 17 that Prospect exchange customers will receive dial telephone service in 1960. A June 16 dinner at Prospect Methodist Church drew 40 civic leaders as Williams outlined a plan to invest over 87000 dollars next year, start a new Prospect building, install dial switching equipment, and replace all home and business phones with dial sets before the conversion.

Miss Edna Sue Shoup was guest of honor at a bridal shower at Mrs. Bernice Shoup’s home on Saturday June 6. Guests included Mrs. Christine Dilger, Mrs. Nona Boda, Mrs. Jane Shoup, and several others, with gifts, refreshments, and social hours. Six Richwood Graduates Enlist in Marines

Six Richwood High School graduates including Robert W. Penry Gary E. Stevens Bryce E. Kater Robert L. Everly George G. Thompson and Carleton B. Phelps enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. They will train at Parris Island South Carolina then move to Camp Lejeune North Carolina for advanced infantry training before 20 days of leave.

Benjamin A. Dilsaver Dies of Heart Attack

Benjamin A. Dilsaver died of a heart attack June 1 in Bridgeton New Jersey while working in his yard. He was 54, born in Richwood Ohio, a lithograph machine operator with Price Brothers Label Co. for 13 years and a World War II veteran. He is survived by his wife Virginia nee Smith, two sisters Esther Milrer and Cecil Long, and nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held June 4 at Freitag Funeral Home Bridgeton with Rev. John W. Hutchinson. burial at Fernwood Memorial Park.

National Grange Seeks Contests to Curb Surplus

The National Grange promotes sewing and baking contests to boost consumption of surplus fibers and foods. A 1958 sewing contest drew 55,181 dress entries across the nation, with winners to be judged in New York City. Home Economics chairs in over 7100 Granges note many contestants made multiple garments, consuming vast amounts of materials. The group now launches a Baking contest to further encourage home cooking and reduce government surpluses.

The first public showing of Farm-Orama 1959 near Richwood Ohio took place June 3 at the Russell Case Farm. Press and exhibitors viewed the 1300 acre site with a helicopter tour of seed plots pig and beef operations and a roof sign visible from 8000 feet.
