Richwood marks its bicentennial with a busy start featuring a sidewalk sale at Richwood Merchant, a 4-H ice cream social and pie service, and a large turnout for the American Legion Auxiliary street dance. Festivities drew crowds for square dancing and neighborly celebration during the day and evening activities.
A sweeping review of Richwood's Bicentennial weekend details parades, markets, and community events. Highlights include the American Legion Color Guard leading the parade, two full pages of parade photos, arts and crafts displays, and heat of the day activities with food lines, fire department water battles, and tug of war. Sunday features church services, a large barbecue dinner, and local sports results. Registrations include visitors from Germany and Costa Rica as plans for upcoming events unfold.
Richwood police logged a busy weekend with Bicentennial crowd control. Two autos owned by Robert Tosco and Dennis Klaiber had windshields broken in the downtown area. Bicentennial banners were removed and mostly recovered. At 11 25 p m June 13 Parrott Implement sign vandalism under investigation. At 3 15 a m June 14 Sieg s Drug Store entry reported with minor merchandise missing.
Richwood Park Director Jack Stout announces registrations for swimming lessons at Richwood Beach. Senior Life Saving classes start June 21 at 11 a.m. Beginners to Advanced swim lessons run July 6 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Daily beach hours 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. A men s basketball league may form with a June 27 registration deadline and $1 fee. Tennis tournament July 10 at Richwood Court and women s tennis instruction begins June 19.
The village council gave final reading to Ordinances 692 and 693 authorizing water and sewer rate increases for residents and businesses. Minimum water charge becomes 11 dollars per three months. sewer charges vary by taps and facilities. Mayor reports a federal grant priority for 1977. A Grham Street sewer issue was sent to the Board of Public Affairs. Mosquito fogging to continue pending weather. Bicentennial event rescheduled. Country Hicks and City Slickers ball game set for June 19 at Richwood Park.
Mrs. John Baird of Marysville was installed as President of the American Baptist Women of Ohio on June 9 at Capital University Columbus for a two year term. She previously served as State Treasurer and Scholarship Chairman and will attend ABC Churches Conference at Green Lake Wisconsin in August.
Village Mayor Charles Boyd will cut the ribbon Thursday morning at Union County Farm and Auto Supply marking a new business entry in Richwood. Pony League baseball is staged Sundays at Park Diamond with double headers when possible and a Little League game first at 8 p.m.
