Barbara Van Zant to Attend Buckeye Girls State 2026

The American Legion Auxiliary held a meeting at the Legion Home with Dorothy Bixler presiding. A $50 donation was approved for the kindergarten and the street carnival is planned for June 28 to July 3. Barbara Van Zant will attend Buckeye Girls State 2026 as the Baccarat Unit No. 40 delegate.

Miss Janis Shoup Weds Kenneth Evans at Church of Christ

Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Shoup announce the marriage of their daughter Janis Mae Shoup to Kenneth Evans son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Evans of Radnor Ohio. The ceremony occurred Saturday June 12 at high noon with Rev. J C Jordan officiating. The couple were attended by Mr and Mrs Elbert D Sellers of Radnor. The bride wore an aqua suit with black accessories and an orchid corsage, her attendant wore a pink suit with white accessories.

Mrs Chiesa Hosts St Joseph Parish Unit Meeting

Mrs. Fred Chiesa of Richwood hosted twenty three members of the St Joseph's Parish Unit of the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women last Wednesday evening. A National president's letter on Christian Family Life was read by Mrs Walter Sobas and Father Cleary led a discussion on liturgical lights. A social hour followed the business meeting with refreshments provided by the hostess. The next meeting will be at Mrs Leo Wolf's home near Green Camp.

Former Residents Celebrate 62nd Anniversary

Richwood Exchange Upgrades Push Service Capacity Higher

Ohio Bell Telephone Co outlines Richwood exchange improvements begun May 21 1948 to add central office line and trunk equipment. The project should take about six months with gradual service gains and a 66 2 3 percent capacity increase. Plans include busier busy tone and direct Richwood Marion circuits by 1949 plus toll outlets from Prospect office and expansion toward nearby towns. Substantial subscriber growth since 1939 amid wartime shortages is noted, with continued efforts to deliver high grade service.

Hobbs Family Leaves Richwood for Kansas Call

Rev. Donald S. Hobbs and his wife and children depart Richwood Tuesday for Oberlin Kansas where he has accepted a call to the Community church. His farewell sermon at the First Baptist drew a crowded house with a reception and gifts including gold wrist watches for the Hobbs couple from the church and gifts to Mrs Hobbs from the Hope Vale Guild and another society. The community extends best wishes for their new home.

Mrs Middleton Hosts Reserve U S Class Meeting

The Reserve Class of Central Methodist met at Mrs Inez Middleton's home with Goldie Sloop assisting. De votions featured Psalm 19 read by Gladys McIntire, prayers led by Minnie White, and a unity prayer. The program included readings by Naomi Yarrington and Mildred Pfarr plus a Bible study conducted by Mrs White. Guests were Mr and Mrs Eugene Kennedy and son Bobby of Martel and Etta Herdman of Marion.

Parish Reunion Held Sunday at Davis Home

The annual Parish reunion was held at the home of Mr and Mrs Walter Davis with about 80 attendees for a noon dinner. Edna Parish read last year’s minutes reporting 4 marriages 3 births and 2 deaths in the family, and officers were elected for next year.

On Wednesday, June 9, the W S C S of the Central Methodist church held installation of new officers. Four presidents, one for each quarter, were installed with Rev J C Stitzel presiding. Members present totaled nineteen plus Rev and Mrs Stitzel and Mrs Dora Steele.

Jackson Grange met Friday night in regular session with 35 members attending. Master Ben Frye appointed the fair committees. Business Agent John McNamee announced items for sale and prices. Approaching Marriage Planned for Dorothy Moloney and Edward Cowgill

Announcement of the approaching marriage between Dorothy Ruth Moloney and Edward Cowgill. Dorothy is a Marion native, Prospect High School graduate class of 1943, employed at Huber Manufacturing. Edward is Richwood High School graduate class of 1940, served in the armed forces, and now attends the National Chiropractic College in Chicago. The ceremony is set for Sunday, June 27, at St. Marys Church rectory in Marion.

Richwood Youths Win Prizes in Poster Contest

Larry Greenwood of Richwood Route 3 won first prize in a state farm safety poster contest sponsored by the Farmers' Institute in Ohio. Union County produced the most winners, matching the total of all other counties combined, with ten winners listed and assorted cash prizes from 1 to 10 dollars awarded to youths from Richwood Marysville Leesburg Raymond and Peoria.

St Josephs Ladies Attend Meeting in Delaware Sunday

The ladies of St Josephs Parish attended a Western Deanery meeting at St Marys in Delaware Sunday afternoon. Father H F Connelly pastor of the Little Flower Shrine in Columbus spoke on making a retreat. Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament followed, then a buffet supper in the school hall.

Fourth of July Races Highlight Richwood Legion Celebration

The Richwood Legion hosts a Saturday July 3 Fourth of July program with seven harness races for 2 and 27 and 17 pacing. Music from Richwood High School band and a soloist. Proceeds fund a Legion building project. Entries to Don Taylor Henry Adams attends with a horse. carnival runs June 29 with five rides and 30 concessions.

Ninety-One Children Enrolled At Bible School

Richwood Vacation Bible School opened with ninety-one children enrolled and a staff of seventeen teachers and assistants. The staff includes Mrs. Tom Kerr, Mrs. Perry Allen, Mrs. Carl Cudd, and Rev. E. B. Brewster. Children will visit Central Methodist and Church of Christ for worship midweek, with visits to First Baptist and First Methodist in week two. Parents may attend the closing program later.
