June 1912 events list deaths marriages and births across Ottawa Street and nearby towns. Notables include the Wornstaff girl’s death in Ottawa, Pearl Donahoe’s tuberculosis death, Miss Sieg’s eleven birthday picnic, and multiple weddings from Ashley to Columbus with newborn announcements and illnesses noted.
Fifty years ago Miss Lena Curry daughter of Capt O Curry opened a select summer school in Richwood. James Sears Evans son of D T Parsons and wife visits at the Commercial House after a stint in Vincennes Indiana. he has a new position at a Findlay hardware store. Miss Nellie Oatley aged fifteen broke her right arm in a cherry tree accident. Nora Lake hosted a superb party with a large turnout and splendid supper. William Clay, a trusted local Black citizen, fell ill from a worm endured a long recovery. Charlie Harley aged 12 drowned while bathing at Marysville. Adolph Glick of the Boston Store Richwood arrived with bride Hannan Reder from Akron. marriage solemnized on Sunday.
Joseph Elwood Brown 75 of Grove street died Tuesday evening after a long illness due to complications from influenza last winter. Former chief of the local fire department he was born November 28, 1861 near Richwood and married Leona Elizabeth Tanner. Survived by widow two daughters four grandchildren a sister and other relatives. Funeral Thursday at 2:30 p.m. in Winter chapel with interment in Claiborne cemetery by Lloyd Winter & Son.
Richwood fair officials Walter Hartman and C. E. Stout attended the Ohio Fair Association summer conference in Columbus at Deshler Wallick hotel on June 11. Fifty six fairs were represented while talks from Agriculture Director Hanefeld former Governor Myers Y Cooper and Judge Halderman covered topics. Fairs urged restoring the State fair submission price to 50 cents from 25 cents noting the impact on smaller fairs. Officials predicted 1937 to be a banner year for fairs.
Max Relico and Michael Bermudes natives of the Philippine Island and students at the University of Cincinnati will give guest talks at the Pharisburg Methodist Protestant church Sunday morning. Rev Paul L Lafferty plans to speak at the Maynard M P Church anniversary in Belmont County near the Ohio River.
Miss Dorothy Nicoll Ganouse and Roy Nelson Lovett wed in a Sunday ceremony at Prospect Street M E church Marion with over 100 guests. The bride, a Capital University graduate and Marion school staffer, and the groom, an OSU graduate and former teacher, plan to live in Magnetic Springs where he will lead the local schools after their California honeymoon.
John Thurman Murphy aged 45, guard at the London prison farm, died Sunday June 13 after an eight week illness. He moved from London to Richwood with his family and was a member of multiple local fraternal and veterans groups. He leaves a widow Audrey Slemmons Murphy and a son Taylor Olaf, with a sister Nye Yarrington. Funeral held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the M E church. Burial York Center cemetery.
The Sew-So club met at leader Mrs. A. E. Warner’s home on June 4 for its fourth gathering. A weiner roast closed the event and the next meeting is set for June 15 at Mrs. Warner’s. Members are asked to bring project books materials and dress patterns. Refreshements served. Betty Clark reporter.
Columbus pair Demmie P Cooke and his wife have toured England France Switzerland Italy Egypt Palestine Ceylon India Burma Siam Indo China Java Bali China Korea and Japan since leaving Columbus last November They plan to return home in July Demmie a Richwood alumni 1880 1888 has long run a Columbus real estate firm dating to 1876 They will visit Avery C Lowe in Los Angeles on the return leg.
Richwood resident Robert Sanders recently finished a practical training course at Coyne Electrical School in Chicago. The school’s stringent standards mark his achievement highly and officials expect his specialized knowledge to reflect well on his home community. Sanders is the son of Percy Sanders of Richwood.
Mt. Carmel Chapter No. 42 of the Order of the Eastern Star will meet Tuesday evening June 22 to honor its charter members. Members and families are invited for a program and a pot-luck dinner after the regular meeting. please bring table service.
Mr and Mrs W E Beeman and daughter Ruth left Ocala Florida where they spent the winter to visit their daughter Helen and her husband in Chillicothe then proceed to Wayne to stay with Mrs Beeman's mother Mrs G A Adams and husband for the summer
Miss Olive Sinkey attended the ninety fourth commencement exercises of Senior high school in Columbus on Wednesday June 9 held in the Coliseum at the state fair grounds. Fifteen hundred and fifty six graduates participated. Miss Sinkey's great niece, Miss Dorothy Grant Miller, was a member of the West high school class. Miss Miller is well known in Richwood being a frequent visitor at the Sinkey home for many years.
Sunday visitors at the John Brady home included Fred Brooks Marjorie and John Brooks of Columbus Mr and Mrs Albert Boblenz of Agosta Mr and Mrs Richard Boblenz and son Junior of Oakland Mr and Mrs W F Eaton and daughters Evelyn Eleanor and Eileen Mildred White Harold White and Margaret Doss of LaRue and Mr and Mrs Joseph Wasserbeck.
Mrs. Vern Mitchell received 10000 damages in a Delaware county suit filed earlier. Her husband died in an automobile accident years ago making it the largest award on a similar charge in the county. Attorney F A McAllister of Humes McAllister of Delaware represented her.
The Reserve class of the M P church met at Mrs. Georgia Cramer's home with Mrs. Edith Cramer assisting. A business meeting set plans for an ice cream social on June 26. A treasure hunt was won by Mrs. Margaret Monroe. Eleven members their teacher and two visitors attended. The next meeting will be July 8 hosted by Mrs. Millie Webb and Mrs. Arlene Webb.
The Cham p ion Cookers 4-H club met at Mrs Langstaff s home on June 15 with eighteen members and the assistant advisor present. They discussed baking powder and planned a June 25 picnic at Prospect Park. A club tour to Cincinnati and Coney Island is set for June 24, and the next meeting will be June 22 at the advisor s home.
Mrs Donis Dawn Kale 55 wife of David E Kale died at home in Bellefontaine on Friday June 11 after three years of heart trouble. She was born January 19 1882 in Dublin Ohio and married April 15 1906 at Essex. Survived by husband son Arthur Urbana daughter Beulah at home brothers Wilbur Richwood and Pearl Columbus. Funeral Monday 2 pm at Sanders Funeral Home with interment in Dublin.
Richwood Merchants edged Marion Colored A. C. 6 to 5 on the Richwood diamond as pitcher R. Algower fanned 21. Marion’s Johnston and Pepper struck out 9 Richwood batters. Next Sunday June 20 Richwood hosts Byhalia at 2 30 p m at the Richwood Fair Ground diamond.
The S S class of the M P church held a social evening at Mary Jane Cramer's home last Friday. Contests and a treasure hunt entertained the group with Miss Mary Jane Hamilton winning the treasure hunt prize. Refreshments were served by the hostess and her mother.
The Pythian Sisters announce their annual inspection on Monday June 21 at the K of P hall. Refreshments will be served after the meeting. All members urged to attend by Mary Lilly M E C.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Robinson and daughter Nancy and Mrs. Etta Robinson were guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Durfey on North Franklin Street Sunday. Evening guests included Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Hinton and daughters Helen and Betty of Ostrander and W. L. Hinton of Richwood, and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Phillian of Marion.
Private services were held Monday for Mrs. George W. Wilber a 57 and her aunt Mrs. John Cartwell 72 longtime Marysville residents both died of injuries from a mobile accident three miles from Milford Center on Thursday. Mrs. Wilber left a daughter Georgeanna. The Wilber service was at L H Miller chapel at 10 am and Mrs Cartmell service at 2 30 pm at Oakland residence. Burial followed in Oakdale cemetery.
Clair N. Kinney, son of C. E. Kinney of Richwood, resigns after nearly seven years with The Daily Citizens at Ambridge to join the editorial copy desk of the Pittsburgh Sun Telegraph. He has been active in civic work and served as secretary of the Ambridge Kiwanis club. He and his wife will move to Pittsburgh. A testimonial dinner was held in his honor at the Ambridge County Club.
Mr and Mrs Frank Hickok hosted a Sunday dinner in honor of Mr Hickoks birthday. Guests included Mr and Mrs George Hickok and sons from Marysville Mr and Mrs Wayne Liggett Mr and Mrs Alvan Coder from Magnetic Springs Mr and Mrs Dean Patch W M Hickok and Mr and Mrs Lawrence Davis and sons from Richwood.
A Sunday gathering at G. W. Moore's home included many visitors from Dayton Gordon Marion Richwood Springfield and nearby areas. A picnic dinner was shared at noon before services in the afternoon.
Edgar A. Shipley and Harold C. Reed, juniors at Ohio State University's School of Journalism, received keys for outstanding Lantern work. Both served as news editors for the daily student publication this year.
