Secretary Wallace to Speak at Richwood July Fourth

Secretary of Agriculture Henry C. Wallace is set to speak at Richwood's Independence Day celebration if no changes occur. The program includes forenoon athletic events, a Richwood versus semi pro ball game, afternoon speeches, an athletic show, a surprise act, and all evening street dancing and festivities.

Boy Dragged 300 Feet by Cow Injures Emerson Family Farm

Emerson, son of Mr and Mrs Okey Hall, north of Jefferson on Fitzgerald farm, suffered severe bruises when a cow dragged him 300 feet during milking Friday night. The cow panicked after a tail tug and runoff across the pasture left Emerson unconscious with mud and torn clothing. Dr Evans treated him and reports say the boy's condition is much improved.

Fire Destroys Large Barn Near Richwood

A large barn owned by P. M. Welch three miles east of Richwood burned Monday night with a calf saved by Welch. Fire started in the haymow, origin unknown. The Prospect fire department helped save the house and outbuildings, but the barn and its contents valued at about 10 000 dollars were a total loss. Losses included auto, tractor, truck, corn husker, manure spreader, hay loader, plows and more, partially insured. Corn nearby scorched, silo damaged, and hay consumed.

Mrs Ella Landon Dies Sudden­ly in Marysville

Ella Landon who once lived in Richwood died suddenly at her Marysville home after a brief pneumonia illness Wednesday night. She was married in 1867 to Samuel Landon who was killed in 1886 in Milford Center when a railroad collision sent a car onto him. Funeral services were held Saturday with Rev. Hugh S. Evans officiating. burial followed at Prospect Cemetery.

Wm. E. Norris Dies at LaRue

William Elmore Norris died Sunday at his LaRue area home from a cerebral hemorrhage after a two year illness. Born July 27, 1849 in Cardington, he was nearly 72. He married Ellen Emmons in 1878. survived by two daughters Mrs. George Raub and Miss Natella Norris. a brother Charles Norris of Delaware. Funeral Tuesday at 2 pm at the Methodist church. Rev. J. W. Horne officiated. burial in LaRue cemetery.

Social and Birthday Gatherings Highlight Community Week

Mrs Cr Fox entertained the Emanons at her home Wednesday evening with a social visit. A birthday surprise for Mildred Biddle was held by Miss Iva Biddle at the Biddle home on East Ottawa Street. The Philathea class and families held a pie social at the Baptist church, followed by a short business meeting and program. The Sunshine Band of Claiborne M P church met at the Will Smith home for a short program and talk by E L Langstaff. the July meeting will be at the George Baker home. Miss Mable Shelhorn hosted Kinney Pike gatherings with several local and visiting guests from Marysville, Magnetic Springs, Ashley, Plain City, and Claiborne.

Road Blow Up On Leesburg Pike Forded By Beams

Heat causes a five foot wide section of brick paving on the Leesburg pike near the McLean farm to lift and creep forward half a mile in both directions. Vehicles were forced to pass along the beams at the road edge as the surface expanded under the sun. The dull roar of the blow up was reported by the Washington D. C. Herald.

Middletown visitors tour Richwood Parmer Exchange Plan

Mr Reynolds farmer Mr Wise businessman and Mr Pence farm agent from Middletown Md visited The Richwood Parmer Exchange Co Tuesday of last week. They studied the cooperative elevator operation and plans and said they would return to organize a similar elevator. All expressed favorable views of the village and countryside.

Rainbow Vets Form Chapter at Marysville

A Rainbow Veterans chapter was organized in Marysville by Co. E of the 166th Infantry. Orville Warden was elected president with Abe Newlove Leo Scheiderer and Harry Sturms as vice presidents Frank Gilbert as secretary and Harry Beach as treasurer. There are 51 eligible soldiers in Union county and 39 attended the meeting.

Judge Brodrick Recovers From Light Stroke

Judge John M. Brodrick referee in bankruptcy suffered a light stroke Friday in his Marysville office. He has faced failing health for some time but after being taken to his home his condition improved and friends hope for a full recovery.

Morelock Dies Sud­denly at 58 in Marysville

Charles A. Morelock former county auditor and one term representative to the General Assembly died suddenly at his Marysville home from a cerebral hemorrhage. He was 58, born February 13 1863 in Plain City. Surviving are his widow a sister a daughter in law and two grandsons. Funeral held Saturday at his residence with Rev J A Hoffman officiating. Mrs. Cynthia Phipps Dies in Claiborne Home

Mrs Cynthia A Phipps died Saturday morning at her Claiborne home from a complication of diseases. She was 77, born August 11, 1843, and widow of Johnson Phipps. She leaves four daughters and one son. Funeral services were held Monday at the Claiborne M P church with burial in Claiborne cemetery. Lloyd Water had funeral arrangements.
