The Neighborhood Youth Corps NYC program funded by the U S Department of Labor operates in Delaware, Madison and Union Counties. It pairs youths 16 to 21 with non profit agencies for meaningful work while providing counseling and enrichment. Participants are paid 1 25 per hour with limits on hours and no pay for counseling time.

Eleven year old Phil Bender son of Mr and Mrs Auguste Bender of Pearl Street escaped serious injury when struck by a car near E Blagrove and N Clinton Streets. A motorist had stopped to allow him to cross on his bicycle and another car pulling out struck him. He was treated at Marion General Hospital for a deep laceration to his right leg and released.
