Post Office Dedication Draws Large Crowd in Richwood

About 500 people attended the dedication of the Richwood Post Office on Sunday afternoon June 10. Postmaster Robert E. Erwin welcomed guests and introduced master of ceremonies W D Cochran. The program included invocations, an address by Maurice Core, flag ceremonies, and a reception with refreshments. A list of former postmasters is included, ending with the present staff led by Postmaster Robert E. Erwin.

Clifford Black 71 Died At Richwood Rites Held Saturday

Clifford R. Black 71 of Route 3 Richwood died Wednesday at his home three miles south of Richwood. Funeral services were held Saturday at Ballinger Funeral Home with Rev Don Webb officiating. Burial followed in Hopewell Cemetery near Magnetic Springs. He was born January 10 1891 to Arch and Elnora Fryman Black. He married Gertrude L. Smith June 10 1912. they would have celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary Sunday. Survivors include wife Gertrude, one son Rev Richard Black of Bryan Ohio, two grandsons Rev Ronald Black of Arlington Ohio and Clifford Mervyn Black of Bryan, Ohio, one granddaughter Janice Black, two brothers Clint Black of Chicago Illinois and Clare Black of Barberton Ohio, and one sister Mary Mollahan of Akron. Three brothers are deceased.

Claiborne Bible School Program slated at Methodist Church

The Claiborne Community Bible School will present a program Friday evening June 15 at 8 o clock at the Claiborne Methodist Church. The public is invited to attend to see crafts and workbooks on display. Each department will recite and sing special songs.

Claiborne Grange met Monday evening June 11 with George Clark presiding. The minutes were read and approved. The degree team conferred 3rd and 4th degrees on Lena Harris and William Sheets couple. Pvt Harshfield Completes Tank Training at Fort Knox

Pvt Donald L Harshfield completed eight weeks of advanced individual training at the Armor Training Center Fort Knox Kentucky on May 19 He learned to operate the 90 millimeter tank gun and drive the medium tank He studied duties of the four tank crew positions and is 22 years old son of Mr and Mrs Lawrence Harshfield West Mansfield Ohio and a 1958 graduate of Bokes Creek Local High School

Richwood Garden Club Holds Annual June Flower Show

The Richwood Garden Club hosted its eleventh June Flower Show on Saturday June 9 at the American Legion Hall drawing 158 entries across forty six classes including a junior division house plants and rose displays. Notable features included a non competitive dinner plate decoration and niche exhibits by Mrs William Harsh Miss Nelda Hedges and A O Grooms. The show’s results pleased judge Mrs Virgil Sarver of Urbana and the club plans to sponsor the flower show at the Richwood Fair over Labor Day weekend.

Hunt Milling Schedule and recent Ohio Fastball results

Hunt Milling plans doubleheaders at home against W Liberty on June 15 and 16 at 7:00 p.m. and against Columbus Merchants on the same dates, followed by a trip to Middleburg for a 7:30 p.m. return. In the Ohio Fastball League last week Hunts beat Circleville 3-2 in nine, then lost 7-0, then split a Washington D C doubleheader 3-1 and 5-2 with Welty the winner and Murray closing.

Thriftee Stitchers Hold June 6 Meeting at Mrs Graham Home

The Thriftee Stitchers Club met at the home of Mrs Ster ling Graham on Thursday afternoon June 6 with Mrs Roy Warren in charge. Devotions from Psalms were read and a picnic at Zane Caverns was planned. Evelyn Kyle received a birthday gift from her mystery sister and guest Mrs George Graham won the guessing box. Mr and Mrs Glenn Oman of Route 2 Richwood welcomed a baby boy named John David on Wednesday June 6 at San Antonio Hospital in Kenton. He weighed 7 pounds 15 ounces. Speeding And Hot Rodding To Be Stopped In Richwood

Richwood village council met June 11 at the town hall to discuss speeding and hot rodding complaints in village streets. They reported progress on fire station gas and water lines and an overhead door. zoning plans and revisions to ordinances were noted. an electronic records system in the police station was reviewed. the solicitor urged repeals and new laws to curb violators. mayor called for increased police cruiser use.

The Marysville Garden Club hosted its annual Flower Show titled A Day In June at Scott's Hall on June 2 and 3. The 6th District of the Ohio American Legion held its Summer Convention in West Jefferson on Sunday June 10.
