Richwood residents learn of the birth of Helen Louise Young on June 6 1909 and attend various family and social events. The column lists marriages births anniversaries and visits including Blanche Biddle Dr T W Young Mayme Fribley and Dr Walter Withoft, plus local inquiries for school superintendents and notes on local money scarcity.
The report notes favorable weather for oats wheat and other crops and expresses confidence that outcomes will be positive if the current conditions persist.

Milton L. Dickason a Democrat received commission as postmaster of Richwood from President Roosevelt and will begin duties soon. Former mail clerk who came from Marion ten years ago succeeds Owen Livingston a Republican who held the post for twelve years. Dickason topped the latest civil service exam and is currently training in the office.
The Pythian Sisters will hold their annual inspection Thursday evening at 8 o'clock in the K of P hall. All members are urged to attend.
Austin Carey 74 prominent farmer of Phar isburg died Saturday June 9 after years of ill health. Born December 4 1859 in Leesburg township he married Ada May Simpson February 25 1878. Surviving Millard F. Carey Lima Porter Carey two grandchildren. Funeral Monday at 2 30 in Winter chapel with I O O F and K P lodge services. Interment Maskill cemetery by Lloyd Winter & Son.
Lydia B. Crawford of Cincinnati inspected Mt. Carmel Chapter No. 42 Eastern Star last Thursday in the Masonic Temple. Two candidates were initiated and Mae Bown praised for her officers. 114 visitors from many cities attended. notable guests included Ella B. Shearer Jessie Hinkle Lydia Guthery Jessie Boggess and Rose Brunner. Mrs Shearer also instituted Richwood’s first Eastern Star chapter.
Miss Martha Brobeck remains captain as Belva Allen resigns to study beauty work in Columbus. All Girl Scouts are urged to meet at M. E. church Friday for play rehearsal. A play titled How St John Came to Bencers School will be presented at M. E. church on Tuesday evening June 19.
Mila Bowen 73 wife of M L Bowen and mother of County Auditor Morey Liggett of Marysville died at home Friday evening after three days of heart trouble. Survived by husband another son Emery Liggett Akron. first husband James Leggett predeceased. Married March 10 1920. Funeral Monday 2:30 at Marysville residence. Interment Oakdale Cemetery.
Mr and Mrs J S Morse recently moved on the LeMasters farm northwest of Richwood and have six children six with five letter names Ethel Edwin Evert Evlyn Edith Elena all blondes with blue eyes Morse is an ex service man noted as a coincidence in this local item.
Mr. and Mrs. E. F. Patrick and Miss Betty Harris return from a winter in Pueblo Colorado to Richwood Monday evening. They will spend the summer months at the D. C. Cushman home, joined by Mrs D C Cushman who had been with her daughter in Colorado.
Mr and Mrs KE Elliott and granddaughter Eula with Mr and Mrs M L Langstaff attended Findlay high school commencement on June 7 where grandson Donald Langstaff was among 206 graduates. Guests from Napoleon included Mr and Mrs Fred Hilgendorf and Mr and Mrs W W Zeigler at Howard Langstaff home. The Langstaffs also attended J C Donnell junior high graduation on Friday for grandson Bernard Langstaff among 162 pupils.
A large audience enjoyed free entertainment including dance and roller skating on the public square last Thursday night with ideal weather. Mrs Pauline Blue and Miss Rachel White performed, and another big crowd is anticipated tonight as Radnor Grange airs a program at 8 30 featuring Earl Miller Johnnie Davis Gregg Schaffner Mareena Russell and others.
The Young Ladies' Bible class of the M. E. Sunday school will meet at Mrs. Robert F. Allen's home on Friday evening June 15 with Mrs. H. M. Carpenter and Mrs. D. W. Mulvaine as assistant hostesses. A fine program has been arranged and all members are urged to attend.
Eight members of the troop traveled to Buckeye Lake last Saturday afternoon and spent the weekend at the G. W. Lax cottage. Most time was spent swimming. All but Richard Fisher, who is out of town, have joined these lake trips. They returned home Sunday evening.
Glen Blanton and Harvey Stithem of Richwood were arrested at Ironton by a posse hunting cattle thieves. Stithem is charged with stealing cattle near Ironton, Blanton with a $55 electric drill theft from Ray Slemmons garage on May 24. Blanton confessed and was sent to Mansfield reformatory for parole violation. Stithem awaits hearing. They are also charged with stealing Chris Hinkle’s car used to reach Tronton.
Dr. E. O. Richardson of Marion, a retired eye ear nose and throat specialist, suffered a stroke Sunday night after visiting his sister Mrs Burwin Evans near Richwood. He was taken to Marion City hospital and was in a coma Monday morning.
Mrs. Mason Warrington hosted a Thursday afternoon party at her home for her daughter Janice Fourth birthday. A picnic outdoors followed with Barbara Lake Elsie Gregg Lena Chiesa Bea Mayer Maxine Mayer in attendance. Mrs E P Woods assisted with the hosting.
County Recorder William M. Dodge announces he will run for re nomination in the Republican primary in August for a third term. He is a former chairman of the county Republican organization. He notes that the exigent months totalled 313.97 dollars, all of which was turned into the treasury.
Mr and Mrs Clarence Fox and Mrs Della Perry will attend graduation exercises at Grant Hospital Columbus Thursday night. Mrs Perry's granddaughter Miss Pauline Perry of Magnetic Springs is among the graduates from the Nurse's Training School.
Mrs Grover Fields of east Richwood was surprised Saturday night by relatives and friends returning from Richwood to celebrate her birthday anniversary. The surprise was planned by her son Ernest Fields and wife. Two decorated birthday cakes featured the party.
The Union County Men’s Chorus will perform at the Magnetic Springs M E church next Sunday evening at ? p m for the church service. All male singers in the county are urged to attend. Prof A P Russell, President W E Agner, secretary.
Henry H. Lane, 76, a Richwood area farmer born August 21, 1858 in Franklin County, died Friday morning from heart trouble. Survived by wife Mary Howard and children Mrs. Nathan Temple, Mrs. Charles Marks, John, Blanche, and Delbert Lane all of Richwood, two brothers Frank and William Lane of Columbus, a sister Mrs. A. J. Wright of Kenton, sixteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday at Essex M. P. Church with Rev. Forsythe. burial in Price Cemetery under S. R. Sanders.
Otto A. Haberman, 56, of one mile west of Green Camp, died Tuesday morning at Grant hospital after surgery for stomach cancer. Born June 13, 1878, he was a member of Emanuel Reformed church. Surviving: widow Mary Black, daughter Esther, two sisters Mrs. John Jacobs and Mrs. Pearl Knuckle, and two brothers A. G. Haberman and Carl F. Haberman. Funeral Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at Emanuel Reformed church. Burial in Marion cemetery, Lloyd Winter & Son in charge.
John M. Vorys of Columbus announces his challenge to incumbent Simeon D. Fess for the Republican nomination. McCullough will not seek either senatorial or gubernatorial posts. Vorys is a former Franklin County state representative and Columbus state senator, Ohio’s first director of aeronautics, with WWI naval service and a North Sea patrol stint.

The Fidelis class of the Baptist Sunday school met Friday night at Mrs. Howard Temple's home with teacher Miss Pauline Prichard coordinating a program of hymns devotions readings accordion solos pantomime and contests. Twenty five members attended and a luncheon was served by hostesses. Naomi Shoup surprised the class with homemade candy.
The D of U V held a well attended Friday meeting with Department President Gail Seas Montgomery of Marion and officers from Marion and Galion as guests. May Erwin was elected delegate to the state convention in Columbus the week of June 17 with Florence Davis as alternate. The group enjoyed talks, a social hour, and luncheon. The Sewing Club will meet with Frankie Rosette on South Fulton street Thursday June 28.
