A Friday hail and electrical storm caused no major damage in Richwood but reports from across the county note garden and field crop losses. Hail near Claiborne reached the size of hen eggs.

John C. Gaston Dies at Pharisburg Home

John C. Gaston longtime Pharisburg resident dies at his home after a long illness aged nearly 71. Born September 16 1846 in Coshocton county Ohio he was married to Laura Appelfeller and leaves four children plus a widow two half brothers and a half sister. Funeral held at Pharisburg M P church with Rev G C Foltz officiating burial at Hopewell under Lloyd Winter undertaker.

Robber Breaks Into Peoria Post Office

A thief broke into the Peoria post office in Hamilton and Son’s store Thursday night and took a small amount of cash and stamps. A flashlight was the only other item missing, and a description of a blue suit and tan shoes was circulated. Police noted a separate break in at the Big Four depot in New Dover with no valuable theft.

Sherman Jolliff of Richwood is hospitalized at Grant hospital Columbus since last Wednesday for treatment of an infection in the left eye. He noticed trouble a week ago and sought glasses, then was referred to Dr Clark an eye specialist who admitted him for treatment. It is believed a small tumor may be developing and an operation may follow in a few days.

The jury awarded $540 to J. A. and Eliza Saunders from a Love Read case seeking $1,900 in damages. A prior trial had awarded the plaintiffs $225 and $375 in damages.

Oil discovery at Ulsh farm yields 1000 feet of oil

Caledonia Oil and Gas reports about 1000 feet of oil in a new well on the Frank G. Ulsh farm west of Caledonia. Drilling paused after a Wednesday strike. swabbing and cleaning to proceed before shooting resumes, with the depth at 2711 feet and over sixteen feet of pay sand.
