NU Summer Baseball Opens With 13 7 Victory Over Ridgedale
North Union opened its summer baseball season with a 13 to 7 win over Ridgedale. Fred Reese was the winning pitcher with 12 strikeouts and four hits allowed. Bill Baker led the 16 hit attack with a triple a double and two singles. Al Hamilton added a triple a double a single and 4 RBI. Dennis Hamilton and Neil Van Winkle each had 2 hits and 2 RBI. Paul Keller of Delaware resigns teaching duties at Delaware Willis Intermediate School to focus on sports work. He will co-start the NCAA College Division track and field meet at Ashland College June 13 14 and continues to influence track with his Offensive Efficiency Rating system which he views as his new primary pursuit. Keller built Prospect teams to 49 straight undefeated dual meet wins and earned 46 trophies from 1930s through 1942. Dale Baumgartner, Keller’s former athlete, set records at OWU Relays and Central District meet later starring at Miami University.

Richwood Volunteer Fire Department was summoned Thursday evening, June 4 at approximately 9 p.m. to St. Rt. 4, north of Toward. A trailer loaded with furniture burned in the mishap four miles east of Richwood. The trailer was owned by Deuce Trailer Rental Service, Marion, and was being pulled by an auto driven by Orville A. Wing, 24, Marion, when the blaze started. The auto was unhitched and not damaged.
