Senator Knox introduces a resolution urging the Senate to formally declare opposition to the current peace treaty. The move seeks official notice of dissent and signals a potential legislative clash over terms and arrangements.
Senator Knox introduces a resolution in Washington urging the Senate to warn the peace conference that opposition will arise if the treaty is ratified in its present form. The plan also states the United States would aid Europe to remove threats to peace whenever needed and would not prejudice membership decisions. The measure, sent to the foreign relations committee, could intensify the league debate.
Over 200 farmers and elevator operators from six counties at Marion conference fix a wheat price floor. The minimum price of 2.12 dollars and a clean basis of 2.14 begin June 1 with backing from federal and state experts.
Fred Chiesa, one of the three Chiesa brothers from this place who served in the world war, has arrived at Camp Sherman. He served overseas with the 78th Division Co A 310th Infantry. He and his brother Earl expect discharge soon and plan to reopen their confectionery store in Richwood.
The Bucyrus Fish and Game Distribute and Protect ive association seeks help from nearby groups to pass a law licensing cats similar to Ohio’s dog license. They argue cats harm song and game birds and should be licensed. A fish bake is planned for July and a groundhog roast in August.
Mrs D A Newby of Dewittville N Y reports a serious accident to her 17 year old daughter Eva while employed at Jamestown Printing. Her right hand was caught in a press resulting in thumb amputation and severe bone damage. Eva spent eight weeks in Jamestown hospital with two operations to set and re break the bones. The family formerly lived in Richwood and friends regret the incident.
Crowds in Richwood on the last two or three Saturdays rival record turnouts as locals and country visitors flood streets and shops. Parking becomes tight while merchants benefit from unusually large patronage, reinforcing Richwood’s reputation as a top Saturday town in the state.
All teachers employed in Richwood schools during the past year have been re elected. The position of superintendent was offered to H H Helman but he declined and will likely relocate to Mt Pleasant Pa.
At a council meeting on Monday night electrical engineer Mr. Gamper of Columbus presented two cost estimates for distributing electric current. One used the current system, the other proposed new construction. Both options would cost about the same, with a new system estimated near $19 000. A Marysville power source is under consideration, with a joint council and Mr. Gamper to meet the Marysville company Thursday evening.
Edward B. Mather nearly 84, died about six in the morning at his son Gordon Mather's home in Essex. Born July 30, 1835 in Richwood, he was among the first white children here and survived by eight children, with two sons dead. Funeral set Friday at 2 p.m. in Richwood M. E. church. Dr J N Eason to officiate. burial in Thompson township cemetery. Burial overseen by S R Sanders, undertaker.

James Steele of Marion and Harry E Dunlap of Bucyrus were discharged after a preliminary hearing before Justice C W Haberman. Prosecutor J H Eymon argued insufficient evidence to bind them over. he noted witnesses did not tell the full story on the stand.
A jury in Justice Case's court Tuesday awarded Roberts of Raymond a one dollar judgment against Frank Knox of near Richwood. Knox had given a forty dollar note to C. Y. Rhodes for a horse later found to be worthless. Rhodes sold the note after it matured, and Roberts acquired it. Roberts was represented by S. W Van Winkle while Nate L. Moffett defended for Knox.
Urbana June 6 Colonel Ralph D. Cole who gave the high school commencement address tonight denied a rumor that he would be a United States senator candidate.
Essex M. P. Church announces a Sunday evening lecture by Dr. Dix secretary of the board of young people's work of the M. P. Church. The lecture will be illustrated with lantern slides and all are invited to attend.
George W Kosht longtime Richwood resident died Monday at his West Ottawa home after months of illness. Born May 18 1852 in Ashland County Ohio he moved to Richwood 33 years ago with his wife. He belonged to the M E church and Rising Sun lodge kh of P survived by his wife and sister Sarah Cobler. Funeral Thursday at 10 00 a m at the M E church with Dr James N Eason officiating burial in Ashland. Lloyd Winter in charge of arrangements.
Grace Chapel M P Church holds Sunday school at 10 a m and preaching at 10 a m due to an Essex lecture in the evening. Everyone is invited to all services. C B Doty is the pastor.
Arrangements have been made to vacate the proposed site at Clinton and Ottawa streets. Excavation will begin as soon as old buildings are removed. Plans are under way and designs are being considered by the building committee.
Among Our Churches invites all to Bible school from 9:30 to 11:30 for all ages. The sermon after the school is titled The Tower of Faith. William Daniel Dean 60 of Kinney pike southwest of Richwood died Tuesday morning after a long cancer illness. He leaves a widow and two brothers Amos Dean of Marion and Thomas Dean of Indiana. Funeral services set for Tuesday afternoon at 2 at his home with Rev. H C Gillespie. burial in Prospect. Lloyd Winter is in charge.
John T. Cartmell 71, longtime Summersville resident, died at Grant hospital Columbus Friday night after being admitted May 29 for surgery not performed due to critical condition. Born March 16, 1848, he was survived by widow, two sons Thomas of Chicago and Harry at home, two daughters Minnie Hauck of Columbus and Maud at home, four sisters in Ohio, one brother in California, and grandson Frederick Hauck. Funeral Monday at 2 p.m. at the home with Mrs. Mary Sipes officiating. burial in Marysville. Lloyd Winter undertaker in charge.

Three Hun dred and Eighth Engineers the last Ohio regiment to leave Germany are en route home according to letters from unit members. They began for France a week after May 1. Official note added that the 200th and Midith Headquarters arrive in New York Thursday aboard the LeViathan.

John W. Yarrington a local contractor files a bankruptcy petition in federal court claiming debts of 21937.23 and assets of 6459.66 with a $500 exemption sought.
Washington reports a bluish starchy paste on watermelon stems this year indicates a protective evolution by the agriculture department. The paste guards the stem end against rapid decay after harvest, signaling the fruit is sound and market ready rather than unhealthy.

The French premier Clemenceau declares he will not consent to easing treaty terms for Germany and warns that no settlement is in sight.
Paris reports say the four nations council faced heavy doubt as major issues like Silesia and the Polish frontier remained unsettled. Clemenceau held firm against treaty modifications while Wilson and Lloyd George urged modest concessions to speed signing by July and ratification by August. A reported echo in Paris predicted Germany would sign before July 1 and see parliaments ratify by August 1.
The Ohio Penal Code Sec 710-17H assigns felony charges to those who issue checks or drafts with insufficient funds with intent to defraud. Convictions carry a fine between fifty and two hundred dollars and/ or 1 to 3 years in the state penitentiary.
Sandusky June 9. John A Stokes aged 65 wealthy orchardist died at his farm near Vickery today. Known as the apple king his orchard attracted horticultural experts and his apples won prizes at many state shows.
