Allgower Retires After Forty Two Years With Sohio

Edgar W. Allgower, long time Sohio employee and former Richwood resident now living in Fairview Park Ohio, retires July 1 after forty two years with the company. He started as a Lima clerk in 1917, rose to treasurer in 1947, and during his tenure oversaw vast funds and investments while his family includes daughter Margaret Ann Baciak.

Richwood Members Head to Ohio Conference Session

Richwood First Methodist sends Ballards to Lake side for the Ohio Annual Conference with James Christy and Marilyn Jividen as youth delegates. Robert Allen represents the church as lay member and others join for a few days while elections for delegates and appointment readings take place. Ralph and Mrs. Fausnaugh conclude a two week Florida vacation.

Kerns Mare Dead Heats In Derby Co Trophy Race

Daisy Malone owned by Lloyd and Joy Kerns of Richwood finished in a dead heat for the win at Hillards Raceway in the Derby Co Trophy stake. Mr Simpson won the first heat and tied in the photo finish with Daisy in the second heat. The event covered a mile and one sixteenths while the Kerns mare clocked 2:15 with a 2:07 mile. George Battles of Richwood has trained and driven the mare for two years. Daisy Malone earlier set a Croton Ohio track trotting record with a 2:06h mark after her nine-win season last year.

Claiborne Grange Plans Father’s Day Mentioned

Claiborne Grange No. 2679 met with Worthy Master Herbert Simmons presiding. Officers present, minutes approved, Father’s Day and spring birthdays noted. Alumni Banquet report praised donors, Pomona Grange invite read, Fifth Degree planned, meals served, poems read, current events shared, songs and refreshments close the meeting.

Ohio Edison to Seek Higher Rates for Lighting

Richwood Village Council met in the Mayor's Office to hear a notice from Ohio Edison that in about six months a higher rate would be requested for commercial and residential lighting. The Health Department reported water and sewage systems in good condition. The council appropriated street funds to cover lighting costs for six months.

Two Richwood Doctors Building Homes on Country Lots

Dr. and Mrs. C. W. Holcomb are erecting a ranch style house on a wooded country lot recently bought from Mrs. Lela Chapman west of Richwood. Dr. and Mrs. Robert G. Distelhorst are constructing a single story home on a lot purchased from Sturgis Cheney along the Hoskins Pike south of the Geo. W. Hunt residence, to be occupied upon completion.

Priscilla McMahon Graduates From Taylor University June 6

Priscilla Jo McMahon daughter of Abner and Mrs McMahon of Peoria Ohio earned a Bachelor of Science in Education at Taylor University Upland Indiana. Commencement May 6 marked 92 graduates during 113th academic year. Dr Paul S Rees delivered the address. Dr Evan H Bergwall announced 55 education degrees and 37 arts degrees. Alumni Banquet was held June 5 with families attending. Taylor emphasizes Christian citizenship and liberal arts.

45 Lb Carp Caught Near LaRue On Saturday

Bob Robertson of Richwood landed a 45 lb carp while fishing with Soft Craws at the Scioto River rear of the LaRue elevator. The fight lasted nearly an hour on 10 lb test line. He also caught a 15 lb carp.

Cheerio Circle Cook Out Ends Fall Meeting

Cheerio Circle of The King's Daughters held a Monday evening cook out and luck supper at Helen Sieg's East Blagrove Street home. Lions Install New Officers and Ladies Night Planned

The Richwood Lions Club meets at the Masonic Temple with installation night for new officers and Ladies Night scheduled for June 18 at the Grade School Cafeteria. Jay England of the General Telephone Company presented a film on laying the Transatlantic Cable and spoke at the previous meeting. The W S C S held a church meeting led by Mrs. Lenna Patterson with devotional talks by Esther Reeley and Elizabeth Travis, and a candle lighting installation afterward followed by a lunch served by the committee.

York Grange Plans Ice Cream Supper at Meeting

The York Grange held its regular meeting last Thursday planning an ice cream social. Fourteen officers answered roll call. The Alumni supper served 73. three York Buhalia graduates Bill Jacobs David Wiley and Floyd Goodwin were honored with billfolds and key chains. Cleatus Baker presented slides of Arizona and California during Lecture Hour. Refreshments were provided by the Home Ec Committee.

Ralph Godwin owner of the Richwood I G A Market in the northern town area is installing a new floor adding steel display cases and rearranging stock to improve convenience for customers. Air conditioning is also being added.

Farm-Orama Fire Demonstration Adds Practical Lesson

A fire fighting demonstration will be held on September 9 and 10 at Farm-Orama. An old dwelling at the Case farm site will be set ablaze and extinguished using a new chemical extinguishing method for rural folk lacking mechanized protection. The manufacturer leads the demo, showing quick fire suppression in minutes, with the event scheduled late each afternoon.

Heart of Ohio Saddle Club Horse Show Sunday

The Heart of Ohio Saddle Club will host a horse show on Sunday June 14 at their saddle grounds six miles north of Marysville on State Route 31. It offers 22 classes with sessions at 12 30 p m and 7 p m. Prizes ribbons and money awarded in all classes with lunch and drinks on site.
