Canning Demonstration At Richwood High School

A canning demonstration will be held at the Richwood high school building on June 16 at 2 00 p m in the Home Economics Department. Sponsored by the Union County Nutrition Council under the direction of Mrs Langstaff and Miss Edna Burtchin the event covers canning fruits with sugar substitutes and newer methods. Discussion and questions will follow open to anyone interested.

Flag Day Observance Urged by Village Mayor

Sunday, June 14 has been established as Flag Day nationwide and should be observed by all. The mayor urges proper display in the village on that day.

Ohio inland bass fishing season opens with two new lakes

The inland bass fishing season begins officially at midnight after a holidaylike opening day. More than 600, 000 Ohioans hold licenses and may flock to two new lakes as Conservation Commissioner Don waters notes. Anglers 18 and older must carry a 50 cent license with a 10 cent issuing fee. Minimum bass length is 10 inches and the daily bag limit is six. The black bass ban in the Lake Erie district remains through July 1.

Van Atta Leaves RCAF for U S Army Air Corps Post

Dwight C Van Atta from Richwood who served as a Pilot Officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force has received a release and after visiting his parents near town head to Randolph Field Texas to become an instructor in the U S Army Air Corps known as the West Point of the Air He was commissioned August 10 1941 at Trenton Field.

Mrs. F. E. Lewis and Mrs. J. F. Wood hosted the Embroidery club Friday afternoon just west of Richwood. Besides members, guests included Mrs. C. T. Porter and Mrs. W. C. Spain. Richwood Man Announces Candidacy for County Auditor

Claud Swartz of Richwood announced his bid for County Auditor. He owns the Ford Agency in Richwood for seven years, is a Union County native born in Jackson Township, active in K P Lodge Essex Masonic Lodge and Lions Club, married with two children, a Richwood city council member, and treasurer of the Richwood Tri County Fair Board.

Nutrition class offered by Farm Bureau Council

The Farm Bureau Council sponsors a Nutrition class covering new nutrition trends meat planning and preparation and food preservation. Officers and township chairmen of the Union County Public Health league met at the county superintendent of schools office with Supt. W. L. Harris presiding. They named committees to study the state constitution and bylaws and nominate a Board of Directors, with a next meeting set for June 22.

Kings Daughters Meet at Lenox Home on Clinton Street

Sunshine Circle of The Kings' Daughters held their last meeting of the year at the Lenox home on North Clinton street with eighteen members present. Plans were made for the welfare committee to assist several needy families in town. A social hour followed and refreshments were served by retiring president Mrs. Lamont Cramer. The circle will resume meetings on September 1.

Citizens of Richwood urged to read a Washington pamphlet Salvage for Victory and collect waste paper rags rubber and scrap metals. Businesses asked to organize basement to garage scrap drives with five day notice between June 10 and 21 to aid the war effort and front lines.

FFA Wins Dairy and General Livestock Judging Contests

Richwood FFA livestock judging teams won both the Union County Dairy Cattle Judging and General Livestock contests held May 20 with 9 schools competing. The Richwood squad earned two trophies and scored 2230 points in the dairy contest and 1835 in the general contest, with Donald Wood and Robert Stallsmith top individuals.
