Rev. Goewes leads Children’s Day at 11 a.m. with songs, recitations, baby dedication and church bulletin board dedication. An evening service follows at 8 p.m. with hymns, choruses and a sermon. Midweek and Saturday choir rehearsals announced.
A 1943 letter from Corporal Lindsey Glass praises American soldiers abroad, noting morale, entertainment, and desire to train less, plus remarks on equipment and the need for modern machinery. A second message from Private Ralph Rattenaugh in Tacoma recounts training, rough field conditions, weather, and local sights as well as hopes for future transfers. The text closes with promotion of Merchant Marine recruitment and pay scales to attract experienced seamen to support war effort.
