Up and Coming Livestock Club Holds Sixth Meeting

The Up and Coming 4-H club held its sixth meeting on Monday May 26 at Kay Evans home. Jon Davis president led 22 members in the 4-H pledge as the secretary reported and approved roll call. Next meeting plans to visit Holiday Hill to be decided at June 9 at Marsha and Roger McDaniel home.

Commencement Exercises at Essex School Noted for High Attendance

The Essex School commencement drew a large crowd last Wednesday. Carol Amstutz led the procession, Clyde Parish gave the invocation, and seventh and eighth graders performed music under Mrs. Darnell. Key speakers included Patty Wasserbeck, Karolyn Kater, Carol Hoffman, Charlotte Major, and Miriam Davis. Diplomas were presented by Mr. Fetter.

Mrs Elmer S Parish Dies in Kenton Hospital

Mrs. Amy Parish aged 73 of Richwood died Sunday evening at San Antonio Hospital in Kenton after weeks of illness. She was born June 3, 1884 in Leesburg Township and married Elmer S Parish Aug 4 1900. Survived by husband son foster daughter five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral Thursday 2:30 p m at Essex Methodist Church with burial in Price Cemetery conducted by Rev Jerry Wortham and B C Ballinger.

Mullaney Youth Killed in Kenton Road Crash

Thomas L Mullaney 21 of Peoria Route 1 died when the car flipped on Rd 222 near Summersville after a late afternoon turn off Kenton Road. Brother Mark 17 and Leo Baldwin 21 were injured. Charles Brobeck Named Waldo Supt for 1958 59

Charles Brobeck of Marion former Richwood resident and brother of Richwood mayor John I Brobeck was named superintendent of Waldo schools for the 1958 1959 year. He has seven years teaching experience including Edison and Taft High School and worked in purchasing at Whirlpool Marion division. He coached at Pleasant and Richwood, is a Richwood HS and Ohio State alumnus, and resides in Marion with his wife and two children. He is a World War II veteran and member of Masons Lodge Prospect Street Methodist Church and local and state teachers associations.

Three Accidents Within An Hour In Richwood Area

Three traffic crashes occurred within an hour on May 28 near Richwood and Marysville. George J. Merryman, 19, was fined for reckless operation after a Route 37 turn near Claibourne Cemetery sent his car into a church and fence, damaging the structure and starting a fire. he escaped with scratches. Larry Monroe, visiting from Marion, followed and crashed into Swartz Motor Sales window after brakes failed. Leona Rice, 17, was cut near her eye when a car driven by Donald J. McQuown, 22, veered on Route 47 and into a ditch, wrecking the car and fence.

Mrs Florence Ransome Retires After 30 Years Teaching

A note of sadness marked the Essex school year end as Mrs Florence Ransome retires after 30 years in teaching, 28 of them in the community. Pupils and colleagues honored her with an orchid and a Bible, praising her willingness to help and her lasting influence on future citizens.

Farmers to Decide on Wheat Quotas in June Referendum

Ohio farmers vote June 20 in a national wheat marketing quota referendum. If at least two thirds approve quotas for the 1959 crop, acreage allotments and marketing quotas with penalties would apply, plus a minimum price support of 1.81 dollars per bushel. If not approved, no quotas or penalties but price supports remain at about 1.20 dollars per bushel.

Baptist Vacation Bible School Begins June 16

The First Baptist Church hosts a two week daily Vacation Bible School starting Monday June 16 from 9 to 11 each morning. Classes cover nursery to 10th grade with age appropriate supervision and activities. The theme is Jesus the Great Leader and open to all area children.

Bible School Session Opens Next Monday at First Methodist

As of June 1 about 128 people preregistered for Daily Vacation Bible School at First Methodist Church. Classes range from three-year-olds to ninth grade with 16 in nursery and 35 in junior. First session runs Monday June 9 to Friday June 20 from 9 to 11 a.m. daily. A closing program with handwork displays follows Friday June 20 at 7 30 p.m. Parents invited.

The forty second annual Richwood High School Alumni Association banquet was held May 31 in the elementary cafeteria with 244 guests. Donald J. Hoskins spoke, and awards were presented for athletics. Retired Farmer Dies Suddenly Saturday Morning

Thomas Otto Price, 84, a retired farmer of Route 3 Richwood, died at 9 10 A M Saturday. He had been in declining health since May 12 1958. Bertha Powell Watkins 72 of Caledonia died May 29 at 7 05 am in Marion General Hospital after an eight day illness.
