Annual Banquet of Richwood Alumni Association Attended

The 31st Richwood Alumni Association banquet was held Thursday night May 29 at the high school with 263 guests. 1947 Jr. Class served dinner. program featured speeches by Mike Shuman and Sheldon Robertson among others. officers elected: Dallas Sullivan president and George W. Keigley vice president. Guests came from multiple Ohio towns and New Castle Pennsylvania.

Bride-Elect Dorothy McElroy Honored With Shower

Miss Dorothy Jean McElroy bride elect was honored at a miscellaneous shower hosted by Miss Janis Patrick and Miss Martha Keigley for twenty five guests at the Keigley home on South Franklin street. Prizes were won by several guests and gifts were opened amid blue and white decor. McElroy, daughter of Mrs. Agnes McElroy and the late Dwight McElroy, will wed William Davis of Landon Road at 12:30 Sunday, June 8, at Richwood First Baptist church.

Russell Lowe Injured In Automobile Accident

Russell Lowe nineteen son of Mr and Mrs Dana Lowe of Leesburg township suffered serious face and head injuries early Saturday when his car struck a bridge over Blues Creek. He is confined in Mt Carmel Hospital Columbus. His father is secretary of the Richwood Fair Assn. Lowe was returning home after taking a companion to a home near New Dover and it is thought he fell asleep and crashed into the abutment. He was unconscious for a time but later walked to the John Lowe farm for help.

A daughter was born Friday morning May 30 to Mr and Mrs Charles C Oman of near Ostrander at Marion City hospital. Mrs Oman before marriage was Miss Rachel White daughter of Mrs Blanche White of California.

Callahans Entertain With Family Dinner Friday

A Memorial Day family dinner at Mr and Mrs Charles Callahan home on Grove Street drew relatives from Wilmington Columbus Marion Richwood and Anderson Indiana including Dr and Mrs A O Thomas and daughter Mr Dan Bending and several Callahan families and afternoon visitors Mr and Mrs Ben Van Atta and Mrs Rice of Richwood.

Memorial Day Observance in Richwood and Surroundings

Memorial Day activities began at the Legion Home with a parade to Richwood fair ground then by bus to Claiborne cemetery. The Richwood High School band provided music and Scouts decorated graves. Services at Price and York cemeteries drew sizable crowds. Rev. B F Reading spoke at York Church afternoon service.

Richwood T N T 4 H Club Elects Secretary Treasurer

The Richwood T N T 4 H Club held its first vacation meeting in the high school home economics room. Sarah Speyer was elected secretary treasurer to replace Sandra Thomas who left for the summer. The weekly meeting time was set for 2 a m. Tuesday. Janet Sieg Kathryn Sieg and Juanita Payne reported on a county trip to Lazarus in Columbus on May 28. A posture clinic was held and Janet Sieg led games after light refreshments.

Relatives Attend Kramer Funeral From Distant Cities

A large list of relatives and friends traveled from multiple states to attend the funeral of Charles H. Kramer. Attendees included Rev. J. A. Currier and daughter Elizabeth, and numerous named relatives and associates from Columbus, Newark, London, Marion, Green Camp, Milford Center, and beyond. They also visited Decoration Day exercises in Galton after the services.

Newark Captain Among 9200 Nominated for Regular Army

President Truman submitted to the Senate nominations of about 9200 National Guard Reserve Corps and U S Army officers for permanent commissions in the regular army. Captain James R. Whitehead of Newark, son of David B. and the late Winifred Whitehead, is among eight chosen from Licking County. Whitehead, born in Richwood, a Richwood High School graduate, is stationed in Norfolk, Virginia and intends to pursue a life in the Army.

Auto Accident on Route 31 Near Broadway Corners

Two cars collided shortly after noon Saturday on Route 31 north of Broadway Corners. Ottie Gray of Richwood and Mrs. Lee Thompson of Columbus drove the vehicles. Mrs. Thompson cut knee, Gray head cut and knee bruised, Dana Jackson riding with Gray injured. Both cars badly damaged.

Friday evening in Richwood High School auditorium saw 34 students graduate. Pauline Gill of Richwood married Ernest De Lauder of Columbus in Marysville on May 27 by Rev. J H Hoffman. Robert F Elliott died after a long illness at his home near Claiborne.

Fifty years ago on May 25 a 9 pound boy was born to Mr and Mrs Cary Mosher of York township. A fire about 9 20 Tuesday evening damaged several local buildings including O D Brownings meat market the Deposit Bank Building and other shops. A pleasant surprise marked Mrs William Nichols birthday near Magnetic Springs and neighbors celebrated Mrs T H Biddle's 40th birthday in ghostly attire.

Vacation Church School Opens In Richwood June 2

Vacation Church School under Miss Eletha Rogers and the Richwood Ministerial Association opened Monday with 134 enrolled. Classes run 8:45 to 11:30 a.m. through June 13, with staff including Miss Alice Boda director and Rev. Brewster, Rev. Elwood in crafts, and numerous teachers and assistants. Transportation aid provided for Claiborne and Essex children. A mid morning lunch is offered by local churches.

Rural Life Sunday Service Draws County Granges

Rural Life Sunday at Springdale Baptist Church in Union County drew a large audience for a rejoicing picnic dinner and program. Dana Lowe Pomona Grange Lecturer led group singing and choral selections with Aaron Darnell directing. Mrs Wallace mother of Mrs Syl via Pierce died at her daughter's home west of Richwood around noon Wednesday. Funeral arrangements in charge of Marion Winter were not complete at press time.
