Memorial Day Celebration a Big Success in Richwood

The two day Richwood Memorial Day event drew over 10 000 attendees across parades sessions rides booths and a grand fireworks finale. Bob s Amusements provided rides while the Booster Club ran games and local merchants sponsored the display won by Shagon Doyle Richwood High Sophomore queen candidate. General chairman Dr W P Drake led preparations with praise from the public and organizers.

Evans State Farmer Mark Evans of Richwood Earns Honor

Mark Evans son of Mr and Mrs Robert Evans two miles east of Richwood becomes a State Farmer at the State F F A Convention in Columbus He graduated from Richwood High School last week and has been active in F F A activities He plans to study Agricultural Engineering at Ohio State University He received the Thor Research Center Award for outstanding scholarship and farm mechanics ability Other local items note Martha Washington Circle meeting June 9 at 2 PM and a fishing trip by Vernon Houseworth Susan and Earl Simmons at Middle Bass Island

Ridgeway Guilty in Petty Larceny Case

Joe Ridgeway of Richwood was found guilty of petty larceny for stealing a ton of cigarettes from Ralphs I G A Super Market on February 2. Judge Richard Finefrock sentenced him to 90 days in county jail and a $300 fine, with most of the fine and jail time suspended on good behavior for two years. The jail term was reduced to 30 days due to the defendant's health.

Freshmen Win Jug Track Trophy at Richwood Field Day

Freshmen from Richwood High School won the second annual jug track trophy on May 21 at Richwood Memorial Field. Dace Samils led the freshmen to victory with 14 percent of points and earned recognition from Coach Drodo dropped.

Richwood H S Alumni Banquet Draws Large Crowd

The forty third annual Richwood High School Alumni Association banquet drew about 320 attendees Friday May 29 at the Elementary School cafeteria. Guests enjoyed dinner by Claiborne Grange and a program featuring Har old Reed of Delaware and a This Is Your Life segment hosted by Jack Weller.

Mosquito Fogging Efforts Urged In Richwood Community

City mosquito control notes returning pests with winds bringing new breeding sites. Fogging has occurred on about three nights this year, using DDT though supplies will run out soon and more orders are needed. Residents are urged to donate at Winter Furniture, Swartz Motor Sales, Thomas Chevrolet, or Thomasson Hardware and report any breeding areas for tractor treatment.

Simpson Boy Injured By Power Mower Friday

Ronnie Simpson ten year old son of Mr and Mrs Robert Simpson of Richwood was struck by a riding mower when it ran over his foot in a ditch last Friday morning two toes were cut off and several others clipped the big toe and the toe beside it were amputated he was taken to Marion General Hospital and expected to return home this week the incident follows another mower accident in Richwood warning that power mowers are dangerous and should be used with care by all ages.

Cub Scouts Den 2 Tour Ends Season

The Cub Scouts of Den No. 2 held their final meeting Monday afternoon June 1. Sponsored by den mother Mrs Edward Cowgill the group toured the Harding Memorial in Marion and the Harding Museum on Mt Vernon Ave seeing displays. Den chief Terry Rockhold led games and Mrs Cowgill served refreshments. Participants included Alan Cowgill Jack Garee Steve Ransome Robbie and Jimmy Berridge.

Youths Fined For Gas Theft In Richwood District

Four youths were fined and given jail terms in Mayor Easton’s Marysville court for gasoline thefts. Berlin Foreman and Chas Burgette each received 50 dollar fines and 30 day sentences, Melvin Foreman 23 dollars and 20 days, Richard Reece 1 dollar and 20 days. Reece pled guilty to theft at Ed Elliott farm. others thefts at Clifford Britton farm. Also implicated were a minor, Ronald Erwin, and WOL. one subject was turned over to the Army.

Union Co Chapter National Foundation Annual Meeting Held

The Union Co Chapter met May 25 1959 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Cooper in Pharisburg with a pot luck supper before the business session. Campaign Directors reported March of Dimes drives across 14 townships showing varied gross and net receipts totals and expenses.
